SOUTH BRUNSWICK FAMILY YMCA TO CLOSE
The South Brunswick Family YMCA announces today that it will permanently close its facility on Culver Road in Monmouth Junction on Friday, September 20th. The YMCA is ceasing all operations and intends to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
“This is a very difficult time for everyone associated with the South Brunswick Family YMCA,” said Jeff Hermann, Chair of the YMCA’s Board of Directors. “Like so many businesses and organizations in our area, our YMCA has been hit hard by the economic recession. Declines in membership and donations over the past few years have proven too difficult to overcome. We filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January with the intent of reorganizing and strengthening our YMCA, but despite our best efforts, we are not able to generate the financial resources necessary to sustain our operations on a long-term basis.”
The South Brunswick Family YMCA served approximately 400 members. Ten full-time staff and over 80 part-time staff will end employment as a result of the YMCA’s closing.
“Our YMCA has had the privilege of serving the children, families and communities of South Brunswick for more than fifteen years,” Hermann said. “We are incredibly grateful for the support we have received from our members, participants, volunteers and donors. We deeply regret that closing down will affect so many wonderful people.”
