Many of you may not know that I was closing the gym at the end of the year to pursue my passion for movement, education and therapy and start on the road to a PhD in Physical Therapy. At the last minute we had a member, Dallas Oja, approach me about purchasing the gym to keep our community together. Dallas is a WONDERFUL guy- long time gym member, devoted husband, dancer and singer in class (lol) and local fire fighter. I was thrilled to negotiate a deal with him to keep my baby alive.

I’ve poured my heart into this gym, growing it from scratch. We literally had to demolish a dental office and build a majority of the gym ourselves. It’s been quite the learning experience. My coaching staff and I have coached thousands of hours and changed innumerable lives and I am immensely grateful for their dedication to our community and to me. I have had the best team anyone could ask for. They have made me a better leader and person and I am grateful for their friendship over the years.

I had seen so many lives change in this gym. I have had the opportunity and privilege to believe in people when they didn’t believe in themselves. And my husband laughs at me, but when I finally watched Ted Lasso I told him I found my person (well, apart from him❤️)someone who thought it was more important to believe in a person than anything else. It has been a incredible gift to BELIEVE in people.

Lastly, I have the most gratitude to my husband. My person. The one who believes in me and agrees to my stupid ideas. I’m sure he’s excited about all of my new home improvement ideas 🤣.

Thank you for sharing this journey with me.

With much gratitude and love ❤️

My gym co-sponsors (with Molalla Aquatic Center) an enjoyable 5k race through the town of Molalla. The race is fully enclosed, meaning you don’t have to worry about traffic and can just enjoy a nice jog through town. The race begins and ends at the football stadium. Feel free to jog, walk, skip, run fast, run slow or run just to have a great time!

This morning, I had the PRIVILEGE of exploring a new trail on a run. As I ran, I was overwhelmed with sheer JOY. I mean joy like I could cry at the beauty of the land, the beauty that my nearly 50 year old body could do all the things I want, the joy that I could feel my lungs breathe in the fresh, clean air, the gratitude that I could run because I wanted to not because I felt like I needed to.

Being in the fitness space for the last 25 years, I have seen such horrible trends. Trends that make men and women hate their bodies, punish their bodies, shame their bodies because they don’t have six-pack abs or can’t move this much weight, etc. I often hear people say, “I’m going for a run because it burns the most calories” or “I’m going to do this workout because I’ll burn more calories.” Makes my heart truly hurt.

So, go find JOY. Find joy in whatever movement fills YOU with happiness. Stop punishing your body for what it cannot do and start appreciating it for what it can do. You could have the privilege to move disappear tomorrow. Live a life of appreciation and gratitude, especially in the fitness space that is not always positive and can be downright ugly.

I wanted to congratulate the Molalla Cross Country team on their season and performance at the district championships yesterday.
🏅🏅🏅
I’ve personally trained several of these kids in their off-season for strength and conditioning, helping to create strong, healthy, injury free athletes.
🏅🏅🏅
The girls team qualified for the state championship and the boys team just missed the second place spot.
🏅🏅🏅
What I want to recognize is EACH of these kids. Each of these kids has had to balance being a teenager, being a student and being an athlete- not an easy feat these days with demands coming from all angles. I want to recognize their tenacity, their grit, their willingness to step outside of their comfort zones to do hard things. I know several of these runners are brand new to running and I really want to give a shout out to those kids. These kids aren’t always recognized, but in my book, they’ve done the scary things- the things they know nothing about- which is really hard thing to do. Acclimating to the demands of running is a hard thing. Systems and structures aren’t necessarily developed in kids who aren’t seasoned runners and I give a big kudos to those “new” runners who are just trying to get better everyday.
🏅🏅🏅
I SEE YOU.
YOU ARE DOING GREAT.
