Those who support Waihana know we strive for the absolute best quality in every wetsuit we create. The W1 fullsuit is a culmination of years of testing, design, and product development. We used only the best raw materials from Yamamoto 40 neoprene to our magma fleece lining. This is sure to be the warmest, most comfortable and flexible 3/2 you have ever worn. We added extra durability in the knees with glue over supertex, and flexibility in the knee and elbow creases with our purpose built embossing. This year we have been trimming down our dealer list to make room to more fully support the dealers we work closest with. Doing so allowed us to have the bandwidth to embark on a select few new relationships in the surf market. When my son and I set out to enjoy Oahu’s beautiful waters and catch some dinner last weekend, we never imagined we would land an ‘Ahi spearfishing from shore…

We saw the usual reef creatures with exceptions being some Moana Kali, some Naiʻa, and even a Monk Seal. We pushed a little farther north through the low visibility, and we came across a bait ball of ʻŌpelu. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I caught a glimpse of the back half of an ʻAhi cruise by—so we slowly followed its direction, circled back, and hoped it would return.

And there it was!

I only had a 90 cm speargun, so I clipped it to the float and knew I’d need a perfect shot to land it. The shot only partially stoned it, and a few moments of chaos ensued. The fish came off my spear, but my son stayed calm and made the backup shot that went clean through.

The fish was an incredible blessing, but the greatest part of the day was sharing the experience with my son and seeing his eyes and smile as he recognized our accomplishment! We feel incredibly fortunate to spend time in Hawai’i and know experiences like this are gifts, not guarantees.
