This is especially for coaches too.

Nothing works alone. Cells feel everything we think. Our body responds to our thoughts in flight, fight, freeze, or fawn. When something traumatic has happened and hasn’t been dealt with, it gets stored in our soft tissues.

How we respond to trauma and wounding needs to be addressed when considering chronic pain and inflammation. Chest pain could be from heart break that was never addressed. Shoulder pain could be from bearing too much responsibility as a result of abandonment. Hip pain could be stored grief from the loss of a child at birth.

Trauma is real. It’s called the psychosomatic response. Coaches, we do our clients a disservice if we think all pain can just be stretch or strengthened away. Clients, find a trusted professional who can walk you through life experiences where you need healing. Get healed not just for yourself but for your kids, your friends, your family, and for the person who will hear your story of being healed that goes and gets healed too.

Is it uncomfortable? Yes. Is it worth it? Always.

The healed become the healers.

You were created for rest then work. Resting in the right way produces effective work. It’s more like a rhythm. Work and rest, play and rest.

Just like there are seven days in a week, there are seven ways to rest. I’m imagine how much better you would feel if you implemented a different one each day!

We are what we repeatedly do and we are either setting up habits for longevity or habits for unfulfilled longings.

Unfulfillment leads to reacting out of emotion rather than responding out of understanding.

When we react instead of respond, we fulfill our unmet need in ways that do not benefit our wellbeing or the wellbeing of others around us.

Do you have habits that make you feel fulfilled? Maybe it’s painting, reading a good book, talking with friends or hiking. Whatever it is, visiting these things will fill the pleasure portal in your brain and you will be less likely to find pleasure in other things that don’t serve your body, soul, or spirit.

You might have fancy cars and all the things but do you have the freedom to move without discomfort or help? Do you have the freedom to chase your kids or grandkids on a full out sprint? Do you have the freedom to get up and down from tall objects without concern for how you will do it?

Freedom isn't free but can't buy a quick fix to it. It takes precious resources to obtain freedom and we think independence for the long haul is priceless.

These "markers" of longevity are what separate the free from confined. If you can do these, you are by far at an advantage compared to your peers. It's common to desire to be able to do these things. It's uncommon to actually be able to do them.

Adequate protein at every meal could possibly be the missing piece to your health goals. I'm not talking about a few slices of bacon at breakfast, two slices of turkey on your sandwich kind of intake. I'm talking a full palm size serving at every meal. Keep in mind, not all protein is created equal. That's a whole other post 😅. Get wild and try steak at breakfast, salmon at lunch and chicken for dinner. Variety is good and various proteins have various nutritional benefits. A more hearty protein first thing in the morning may just be the key that unlocks your metabolism and your ability to function with greater clarity of mind for the rest of the day. This is especially true for growing kids. Protein at breakfast could solve a myriad of behavioral and mental focus issues.

I encourage you to track how much protein you (and your kids if you have them) are eating and see what happens. Not sure how much to start with? The recommendation is about 1g per pound of body weight. Divide that number into 3 or 4 and then you will get how much you need at each meal. For example, 160 pound individual would need 130-160g per day. 130-160 divided by 3 and 4 is 40-50g at each meal. Sound like a lot? It's not in the grand scheme of things. At the most its 650 calories of your total daily caloric need, depending on your body weight and frame. Start small and increase week by week until you're hitting your ideal intake.

Ever wished you would have invested in something like bitcoin or apple back when it was cheap? Now it would cost an arm and a leg just for one share.

Health is the same way. Investing in a program, coach, gym membership or even a home gym is really a small cost initially. If you compare the rising cost of health care when it’s “too late”, now is the time to buy. “Muscle is the currency of longevity” -

If you haven’t started yet, the best time to start is today.

What does your health like in 3 months if nothing changes?
What does is look like in 6 months?
What does it look like in 1, 3, or 5years?

Evaluate your daily habits and if they add up to you feeling, looking, and being stronger and healthy, you’re on the right track.

If not, it might be time to evaluate the risk you’re taking by not investing in your strength training and health.

What if self love looked more like disciplining ourselves to yield a more fruitful and productive life?

Here is what I believe self love is:

Having a sound mind is self love
Eating nourishing foods is self love, not a diet
Moving more than sitting is self love
Not giving into every temptation is self love
Drinking water to keep your body hydrated is self love
Sleeping 7-8 hours a night is self love
Creating boundaries with relationships is self love
Having a strong body is self love
Being mobile is self love
Finding the True Source of life is self love
Living an unhindered lifestyle because of the above is self love

Self love is “I discipline my body and make it my slave so that….” (I Corinthians 9:27)
When you love someone, even yourself, discipline is necessary for growth and protection. Even a loving parent will discipline their child so that the child doesn’t harm themselves or expect that the world is their oyster so to say.

Self love is disciplining ourselves to be protected from things that want destroy us in body, mind, and spirit. Discipline is love and being disciplined in having structured habits that lead to life and life abundantly, is self love. Everything else is just a counterfeit that will never satisfy.
