THIS is TransRockies.
Today we’re featuring Michael Weissman (), someone who knows firsthand that stage racing is about so much more than just miles and elevation gain. It’s about showing up day after day, leaning into discomfort, and finding connection in the middle of the challenge.
Here’s his story 👇
"It’s hard to explain until you’ve done something like it, but it just hits different than any other race. It’s not just one hard day where you gut it out and go home. It’s multiple days of showing up when your legs are wrecked, your body’s beat up, and you still have to lace up again. That’s what makes it special. You don’t just test your fitness you also learn a lot about yourself. There were definitely moments where I was like “what am I doing out here?” and then somehow a few hours later you’re laughing with people you just met like you’ve known them forever.
And yes, it’s hard. Like legitimately hard. Altitude, climbing, multiple days in a row. It’s not supposed to be easy but that’s kind of the point. You don’t sign up because you know you can do it, you sign up to find out if you can. A lot of people come out of it saying it pushed them further than anything they’ve ever done, physically and mentally.
If you’re on the fence, I’d say this: Do it because it scares you a little. Do it because it feels big. Those are usually the things that end up meaning the most. Worst case, you suffer a bit and have some wild stories. Best case, you come out the other side realizing you’re capable of way more than you thought."
