White Sand Canoe Rental operates Whiskey Chitto Recreation Area. We are located on lower Ouiska Chitto Creek on Highway 26 bridge in Mittie, Louisiana just 10 miles west of Oberlin. Officially recognized as one of Louisiana's Scenic Waterways, the Ouiska Chitto's easy-flowing, cool, clear spring fed waters and white sandy beaches are very much the same today as they were 100 years ago. rip enters the creek at the Highway 26 bridge and covers about 9 miles. and White Sand is the first pick up point on the river. All others have to continue on for almost another hour. Overnight trips are also available upon request. We are the only canoe rental business with a private launch and pick up location. We are open 7 days a week with trips starting a 7:AM to Noon and Pick up's from 2:PM to 5:PM. We also offer Military, Senior Citizen and Group Discounts. Forms of payment are Cash and Credit Card...Sorry we DO NOT accept Checks.

Hi from White Sand Canoe. We've received all of your messages and appreciate you reaching out. As you know, White Sand was wiped out in the hurricanes. We are in the process of rebuilding and will not be opened this summer. Keep watching our page for pictures and updates. Thank you for thinking about White Sand and we will return bigger and better! The Louisiana and Allen Parish hurdles necessary to open even a simple canoe rental business are incredibly expensive and challenging. You'd think I was building a hospital. But I will get it done...thru all the red tape, BS, and all the $$$

The resurrection of White Sand Canoe Rentals is currently underway in full force. The pad is being laid and the building is undergoing final architecture drawings to be submitted to the La. State Fire Marshall Office for approval. The permitting process is nothing more than a money grab for the state and local authorities, but we will slog through it and hope to be open next season with a brand new building and hopefully new canoes to offer our wonderful customers. White Sand appreciates the patience of our treasured customers and hope to see you in 2022.

Folks, here is what White Sand Canoe Rental looked like after Hurricanes Laura and Delta. They were very devastating as you can see. I will continue to post some pictures as we rebuild. We hope that you will come back and see us when we are done. We should start the rebuild project shortly. We'll keep you posted while this happens. Meanwhile Ouiska Chitto with Mr. Howard is running. We at White Sand Canoe wanted to let everyone know that we are in the process of rebuilding from Laura and Delta. Our facility was completely destroyed. But there is hope on the horizon. WE ARE REBUILDING. As everyone knows, the insurance companies are very slow and not very truthful. We had to fight with them for the coverage on our building and our canoes. We are about to put in the foundation for the new building as soon as it dries up enough. We will not make it for the beginning of the season so please keep up with our progress on Facebook. We apologize for the inconvenience but we WILL BE BACK BETTER THAN EVER!

We know after the hurricane laura everyone is doing the best they can. We hope and pray for those less fortunate in the aftermath of this disaster. We are temporarily closed due to the fact that we were as well greatly effected. After we all rebuild and reopen we can say we stood strong together as communities to rise again.
