Today we celebrated our high school girls. We didnt do your typical awards banquet. We decided to have a fun afternoon of bowling and roller skating. Even coach Jon skated. It was a great afternoon and I think everyone enjoyed it. Thank you families and wrestlers for spending the afternoon with us!

Today I wrapped up my 2nd season as the head girls coach and my first full season (the girls team in Mitchell last year started halfway through the season). Though the outcome is not what we hoped for, I am still proud of both girls. Bryleigh spiked a fever right before sectional weigh-ins and wasn't able to wrestle. Ella has been dealing with an injury to both her elbows and has barely been on the mat the last 3 weeks. Ella gave it her all at sectionals and pushed through some major pain, extreme weakness, and arms going numb. Several of the girls she wrestled made comments about how tough of a match it was against Ella. She literally left it all on the mat today. She ended up in 6th place (top 4 move on). My heart broke for both girls because they are seniors. I know they were both hoping for better outcomes, and I have no doubt that if they were both healthy and injury-free, they would have gotten the outcome they wanted. I watched day in and day out as the girls put in the work. This season, we did a lot of technique work, and I watched them improve and apply what we worked on in every match. I want to thank Bryleigh and Ella for giving me the opportunity to be in their corner, and I will always be in their corner. They are such fun girls to coach! They are both welcome on my mat anytime. I was honored to coach them. A giant thank you to Jon and Jericho for helping me; I couldn't do it without you guys! Thank you for putting up with my crazy 😆. A huge big thank you to Tiffany and Nikki for being the best wrestling moms ever; they took care of so much and were always there to do whatever I asked. They are also some of the greatest friends. 😁 Another huge big thank you to our AD; he answered my millions of questions and was always checking in with me. Thank you for all your support. Thank you to the MCS, school board, and community for supporting the Mitchell Girls Wrestling program. It means the world to have your support. Last but not least a big giant thank you to my husband Carl and family/friends for supporting me and encouraging me. Always asking how the girls did. I would not be able to coach without the support from them. I am excited for next year and can't wait for it to start.

Thanks so much.
Coach Emily

Why are we so empowering for girls, but so confident in challenge for boys? Is it guidance, or is it growth? We say we want bold women. Fearless women. Women who can rise above pressure. But then we hesitate to place young girls in environments that teach exactly that. Wrestling doesn’t take anything away from a child. It gives them strength. Courage. A safe place to struggle and recover. At a young age, girls don’t experience wrestling as violence. They experience it as empowerment. Balance. Movement. Effort. So what are we really afraid of? The unknown? Temporary discomfort? Or the idea of girls growing up unafraid of challenges? If strength is learned, why delay the lesson?

This is from the official who ref the event tonight Dustin Bentz Thank You

Hard to put into words what I witnessed tonight.

8 girls from 5 rural communities in Indiana came together for some wrestling.

They got on their busses at their schools, drove to New Pekin Indiana.

Weighed in at 5
Sat through boys warm ups
Sat through a boys dual
Warmed up and started wrestling around 7:15
Most got 2 matches, some got 1 and no one was on the mat longer than 4 minutes.

They sat around for over 2 hours and only wrestled for about 2-4 minutes.

Now they are jumping on their busses to go back home.

There wasn’t one complaint from coaches or wrestlers, they smiled, they hugged and they supported each other.

Excuse my language but these girls are f—ing trailblazers.

I’m generalizing but I can’t imagine girls wrestling has gone mainstream in rural Indiana.

I got choked up in the last match as it really hit me.

I didn’t get names of anyone so to the coach’s from Paoli, West Washington, North Harrison, Mitchell and Eastern thank you for giving up your night and time to grow wrestling in small rural communities.

To the girls - keep your chins up and heads high, you are laying the foundation in your schools and communities to really give girls another outlet.

And Christine Pisut keep forging away and pushing the sport in Pekin, you’ll see that excitement is contagious and all you need is a spark to start a fire!!

Man….. I LOVE THIS SPORT!!!
