On this hunt I meet up with my friend Evan after work for a quick afternoon hunt. After about an hour drive out of time we roll into a spot Evan discovered on OnX doing some E-scouting. Getting back into the vantage point where we would be glassing from we could tell that if any spot could produce a shooter caliber bear, this would be one! Just an hour before last shooting light a bear runs into the drainage on the hill face adjacent to us, Evan quickly gets set up and the rest is an adrenaline filled 5 minutes!

Pro Tip: If you want to introduce your kid, or any kid, to hunting; take them on a gopher hunt using a pellet gun. The pellet gun is quiet with no kick, this will give the feel of a real gun allowing for you to teach the fundamentals of firearm safety whilst allowing the kid to practice carrying, discharge, and general firearm discipline.

Treat the hunt like a big game hunt: Be cautious and approach the animal to an ethical shot distance.. this also gives them a chance to practice shot placement on a live animal, that type of practice is unattainable on the firing range.

Lastly, Guide them through the meaning of the hunt and the responsibility they have as hunters and conservationists. Example: Prarie Dogs dig holes in the ground in which livestock can injure themselves by stepping in. Sometimes this leads to the livestock having to be put down which can lead to loss of revenue for the rancher.

Most importantly, be safe and have fun!

First time out this year chasing the spring thunder chickens. I join Eric from Outfitter Gear List in an area he has been running into a lot of birds. We locate a tom first thing and move into position. We set up about 60-80 yrds from his roost but to our surprise we're right under a tree full of hens! Final video of the 2020 hunting season!

In the final video of the Eastern MT mule deer hunt, my cousin Lauren and I head back to the East side of the state to recover my truck and hopefully notch our deer tags. Within 24 hrs. after leaving Missoula, we are back home, myself with a fixed pickup, meat in the freezer and our biggest bucks to date!

After my truck suffers a catastrophic failure (fuel pump went out), my cousin Lauren and his sister Maia drive halfway across the state to rescue us! Since Lauren went out of his way to rescue us and Maia is in pursuit of her first harvest, (it is only her second-year hunting) I decide to take them into an area I have been hunting for the past few years knowing that we would be able to turn up a buck Maia would be happy with! After gaining permission on some private ground in the area, Lauren and Maia sneak across a stubble field withing 70 yards of Maia's first deer! We were all extremely excited for Maia that day and I was incredibly happy to help Lauren and Maia complete thier quest for Maia's first deer!
