Our beautiful baby BOY has arrived!!

He was an incredible Sabbath day blessing born last Sunday, October 30th, at home; just one day past his due date. We’ve been soaking him in and enjoying every minute with our new bundle of love. He’s the perfect addition to our family and we couldn’t be happier! Babies bring such light and love into the world. ❤️

Reminder: Stop and smell the flowers 💐….

Any time we’re outside and flowers appear in our path Bea insists on stopping to smell them and admire their beauty. I love the way she reminds me to truly appreciate the little things in our every day lives.

Kids are the best. They just get it…what life is truly about…
Be more like your childhood self.

Saturday Tea 🫖 Party in honor of my birthday on Monday!…
My mom put on quite a beautiful spread for the 3 of us girls today. So grateful for everything she does to support us and show her love! She’s the best hostess I know and inspires me to be a better mom all the time!
Sometimes a girl just needs to be spoiled by her mama!

Trigger Warning ⚠️

Life is precious…this beautiful girl has reaffirmed that for me for over 3 years now. Life is also not without risk…and many women know that pregnancy 🤰 can be one of the most challenging experiences for a multitude of reasons. My current pregnancy took a very scary turn in early May at 14 weeks when I began bleeding unexpectedly. I experienced ZERO bleeding 🩸 or discharge with Bea’s pregnancy so this challenged me in new ways. An ER visit with low-tech ultrasound couldn’t determine an exact cause for the bleeding and could only diagnose a threatened miscarriage, which sounded awful in the moment. Thankfully, baby had a strong heartbeat and was moving well which provided so much relief for us. We weren’t out of the clear just yet and I’d have to make an appointment with the maternal-fetal medicine doctor that afternoon for a more in-depth ultrasound.
8 hours later, second ultrasound done and the doctor and I had a 40-minute discussion to go over what they found…a subchorionic hematoma (similar to a blood blister between the wall of my uterus and the amniotic sac) that had ruptured, hence the bleeding. It was the size of a small banana 🍌 and there was nothing they could do to treat it. I’d have to rest excessively, be on a 10-lb lifting limit for 2 weeks and hope that it would resolve on its own. Baby seemed unaffected, which was the greatest gift in all of this, but, suffice to say, that was a very challenging 2 weeks of uncertainty. I put it in God’s hands and was so grateful for all the prayers 🙏 we received from family and friends.
Another ultrasound 2 weeks later confirmed the hematoma was smaller than initially measured, which meant my body was resolving the issue. I’d have to continue resting to give myself and baby the best chance for complete resolution and getting to full-term.
The slow bleeding/discharge continued for about 3-4 weeks after the initial rupture. The hematoma continues to shrink, baby is doing great and we’ve made it past the halfway point in pregnancy. The human body is truly miraculous. 💪🙌

Flash back to 8 weeks + 3 days pregnant…we got visual confirmation that our little peanut 🥜 was indeed growing inside momma!

This was also the point in time where we met with local home birth midwives, Ashley Hinton-Sharp and Darla Torrez

Yes, we’ve decided to have a home birth! 🏡

We had a wonderful experience giving birth to Beatrice at our local birth center first time around and now we feel more prepared to enjoy this birth in the comfort of our own home. It’s a decision that excites us and will challenge us, but we feel 100% confident in our choice.

Feeling empowered to labor and birth our babies wherever we want…feeling safe, comfortable and attended to during our 9 months of prenatal visits, labor, birth, and postpartum…feeling confident in our own decisions to advocate for those choices and be supported by our providers is what I wish for pregnant, birthing and postpartum women and families everywhere. Healthcare providers work for us and should be open and understanding of our wishes, especially during such an emotional and life-changing time as having a baby. I wish to encourage all women and families to speak up for themselves when it comes to meeting with your medical provider(s) and if you’re scared or uncomfortable doing so, then bring a trusted support person along with you who can speak on your behalf.

Our home birth midwives have made us feel so supported and heard in our desires for this pregnancy. They’ve already spent more time with us in these past 4 months than most traditional ob/gyns would spend during an entire pregnancy and postpartum period. The cost is less, the support is more, and the resulting self-empowerment is priceless.

Did you know that you can interview medical providers, including midwives, before deciding you want to partake in their services?

Saying no to someone or something that doesn’t feel comfortable for you is an empowering act of self love and self care. 💕

The start of this pregnancy is significant…❤️

I tested for the first time and we got a positive result on February 17th, 2022…I tested on this day intentionally because it was the 14th anniversary of my dad’s passing. ✝️

The older I get and the deeper I dive into my faith, the more undeniable I see the connection between life and death. ✨ This baby has completely redefined the meaning of February 17th for me. What once was a sad reminder of a loved one gone too soon is now a joyous beginning for the next little life to come. God works in mysterious and wonderful ways…even if it takes 14 years by this human reality definition. He gives us what we need exactly when we need it.

I’m so grateful for this baby and what I’ve already been given in this journey so far. 💕

What has been redefined in your life recently?

You guessed it!!! ✨🤰💕

Our BIG NEWS is that Baby #2 is baking in momma’s tummy and will be arriving late October/early November!! As with Beatrice, we are waiting to be surprised at birth about boy v. girl, so don’t assume my dress color is an indication of anything!

We’re very excited to be adding another bundle of love to our family and I’ll be sharing details of my journey here…including an early pregnancy complication and on through birth and postpartum.
