Flash back to 8 weeks + 3 days pregnant…we got visual confirmation that our little peanut 🥜 was indeed growing inside momma!
This was also the point in time where we met with local home birth midwives, Ashley Hinton-Sharp and Darla Torrez
Yes, we’ve decided to have a home birth! 🏡
We had a wonderful experience giving birth to Beatrice at our local birth center first time around and now we feel more prepared to enjoy this birth in the comfort of our own home. It’s a decision that excites us and will challenge us, but we feel 100% confident in our choice.
Feeling empowered to labor and birth our babies wherever we want…feeling safe, comfortable and attended to during our 9 months of prenatal visits, labor, birth, and postpartum…feeling confident in our own decisions to advocate for those choices and be supported by our providers is what I wish for pregnant, birthing and postpartum women and families everywhere. Healthcare providers work for us and should be open and understanding of our wishes, especially during such an emotional and life-changing time as having a baby. I wish to encourage all women and families to speak up for themselves when it comes to meeting with your medical provider(s) and if you’re scared or uncomfortable doing so, then bring a trusted support person along with you who can speak on your behalf.
Our home birth midwives have made us feel so supported and heard in our desires for this pregnancy. They’ve already spent more time with us in these past 4 months than most traditional ob/gyns would spend during an entire pregnancy and postpartum period. The cost is less, the support is more, and the resulting self-empowerment is priceless.
Did you know that you can interview medical providers, including midwives, before deciding you want to partake in their services?
Saying no to someone or something that doesn’t feel comfortable for you is an empowering act of self love and self care. 💕
