MEET MANDELA LEOLA VAN EEDEN 🖤

21 years of Ashtanga practice, a life shaped by rivers and adventure, and a deep belief that the practice doesn’t end when we leave the mat.

Mandela brings a steady, focused presence to the Hot House, but don’t let the serious Ashtanga face fool you. She’s also a total goofball, believes laughter is medicine, and will send you out of savasana with the sound of a didgeridoo.

Her favorite pose? Savasana. Obviously. ✨

When she’s not teaching, she’s most at home running whitewater, riding bikes, chasing adventure, or spending time with the people she loves. These days, she’s also learning the art of slowing down.

We’re lucky to have her in our Hot House community.

Come practice with Mandela and see where the magic happens.

Yoga has never been about the aesthetic for us, it’s about creating a space where you can feel at home, exactly as you are, while we keep building, growing, and making this place more ours together.

Thank you all for your patience in this process, and for showing up.

Love,
Jenn & The Hot House Team

Meet Ashley Quas. 🌀 Ashley came to yoga through dance and a lifelong curiosity about movement, consciousness, and the bigger questions of being human. What started as another way to explore movement became a practice of learning how to pay attention, listen to her body, and make room for all the parts of herself that once felt like “too much.”

Her classes are curious, challenging, creative, and a little unconventional. Expect good music, playful movement, active mobility, and plenty of opportunities to get curious about what’s actually happening in your body.

Her philosophy is simple: you don’t have to make yourself smaller here. There’s room for your energy, your questions, your modifications, your weirdness, your rest, and whatever version of you shows up that day.

Ashley has called Hot House home long before she became one of our teachers, and we’re so grateful she’s now sharing that sense of home with our community.

One word for her practice: curious.
Current mantra: leave room to be surprised.
Favorite pose: crow.
And yes, she swears more than you’d probably expect from a yoga teacher. 😉

Come practice with Ashley and see what you notice.

MEET THE TEACHER: ERIN ANDERSON

Erin found yoga when she was about 20, in an undergraduate Bikram class, where she mostly did downward dogs and completely tuned out the teacher. She didn’t really return to yoga until around 2010, when her sister started practicing hot yoga.

At the time, Erin had been struggling with her relationship to her body for years. What she didn’t know then was that yoga would eventually become part of how she healed that relationship.

Today, yoga is her safe space. A place to come back to center, quiet the inner critic, practice accountability and discernment, and connect with herself.

Her teaching weaves vinyasa, yin, self-myofascial release, and social justice. Her classes are meant to be challenging and nurturing, with space for every body to find their own practice.

Her message to students?

This is your practice. Everybody’s welcome here.

Outside the studio, Erin runs Eadem Arbor, a wellness and communication strategy company rooted in creating more connected, thoughtful ways for people to work, gather, and care for one another. She’s also worked alongside some incredible change-makers, artists, and leaders and is the author of The Wild Truth: A Collection of Poems About S*x & Love.

Her mantra: Peace by any means necessary.

We’re grateful to have her with us at Hot House.

Meet Crystal Ayala.

Crystal found yoga more than 23 years ago, when she took her first class as a college credit at 20 years old. What started as a class became a practice that has stayed with her ever since.

These days, Crystal is bringing that practice into a new chapter. She’s building her real estate career here in Missoula after 19 years as an agent in Washington, while continuing to teach and be part of the Hot House community.

Her current practice? Intense. Her soundtrack? ’90s rap and hip-hop. Her favorite kind of joy? Laughing with her kids.

She says what she loves most about Hot House is the people: the students and the wonderful, loving, supportive instructors who make this community what it is.

There’s more to Crystal than we can fit here. Come take her class, meet her in person, and get to know the teacher behind the practice.

We’re really grateful to have Crystal with us here at the studio.

Today, we’re getting to know Kelsey Austin a little better. 🖤

Yoga has been part of Kelsey’s life since she was a kid, when she’d practice here and there alongside her mom at home. It wasn’t until college that it really became a regular part of her life.

When Kelsey went through teacher training, teaching wasn’t the goal. She wanted to go deeper. Into the philosophy, the history, the practices beyond asana, and what happens when yoga starts to actually show up in your everyday life. She took her time with that. She didn’t start teaching until she felt ready to share what she’d been learning with her community.

That’s still at the heart of her classes. A place to learn, relax, get present, and maybe get curious enough to look beyond the shapes we make with our bodies and into the much bigger practice of yoga.

She’s also in her second year of law school, considers coffee a necessity and tea a treat, loves a little bluegrass, calls the mountains home, and has a serious piece of her heart reserved for the ocean.

And right now? She and Camel are figuring some things out. 🐪

Kelsey had gotten to a place in Ustrasana that felt energizing and expansive, and then her body started giving her some very different information. So she’s exploring how to find that same sense of lift without needing to go quite so deep. Because sometimes the practice is less about getting somewhere and more about listening when the body asks us to change course.

We’re really glad Kelsey is part of Hot House. She’s been practicing here for years, and now we get to have her teaching here, too.

Go find her on the schedule. Come practice with her. Get to know Kelsey. 🖤

Meet Cheyenne Rivers.

Her relationship with yoga began decades ago, inspired in part by her mom and a 1960s yoga book. What started as a personal practice eventually became something she felt called to share.

For Cheyenne, yoga is a tool for all of life. A way to meet ourselves exactly where we are — physically, mentally, emotionally — and to cultivate the capacity to respond rather than react. It doesn’t have to look any particular way. It can be a lot or a little, at home, in the studio, or outside in nature.

And perhaps most importantly, her message to every student who walks into her class is simple:

You’re welcome here. We’re all human. We’re all practicing.

Cheyenne has spent more than 20 years practicing within a Tibetan meditation lineage and has traveled and taught in communities across the U.S. and Europe. She brings that depth of practice, curiosity, compassion, and humanity into the Hot House space.

We’re grateful she’s here. If you haven’t practiced with Cheyenne yet, take a look at the schedule and come spend some time with her. We think you’ll understand why we love having her in this community.

School is officially back in session, and throughout the month we’re highlighting the incredible teachers who make Hot House what it is.

Up Next: BJ Howard.

BJ found yoga through what was formerly known as the Bikram practice, what we now call 26 & 2, and it became the beginning of a much deeper relationship with practice, community, and herself.

She has a deep love for this studio: the teachers, the yogis, the classes, the energy. Add in a healthy dose of grunge and ’90s music, and you’ve pretty much got BJ’s love language.

We asked what might surprise people about her.
“I’m a baseball mom!”

We love getting to know the humans behind the teachers, and BJ is one of the many people who make this community what it is. Her candidness and honesty are always a deep breath of authenticity and truth.

Come practice with BJ. Get to know her. And stay awhile.

School’s officially back in session, and we’re kicking off the month by highlighting the teachers who make Hot House Yoga what it is. Over the next few weeks, leading up to Homecoming, we’ll be introducing you to the folks who lead, guide, challenge, and flow alongside this community.

First up: Nick Gonzalez.

Nick found yoga after getting sober and beginning to focus on his health. What started as a nudge from his wife to “give yoga a try” became something much bigger, a practice rooted in connection, presence, and showing up exactly as you are.

Nick reminds his students that you don’t have to be flexible, experienced, or look a certain way to belong in this practice. You just have to show up, take what you need, and make it your own.

And at the end of every class, Nick leaves us with the same beautiful reminder:

You are unique.
You are loved.
You have a purpose.

We’re so grateful for the teachers who pour themselves into this community, and Nick is such a special part of that crew.

We also love watching him build something of his own. If you haven’t checked out South Side Studio Yoga, the sweet little studio he’s created in his home in the South Hills, do yourself a favor and take a look. It’s such a treat to have Nick teaching with us at Hot House while also watching him grow and nurture his own space.

And if you want to get to know Nick beyond the mat, check out some of the recent podcasts he’s been featured on. We think you’ll love hearing more of his story, his perspective, and the heart behind his practice.

Thank you, Nick, for showing up for this community and reminding us that there’s room for all of us here.

Stay tuned. We’ve got more of our Hot House teachers to introduce you to all month long, leading up to Homecoming.
