Mission is a walkable city with an eclectic mix of convenient recreation facilities, 8 neighborhood parks, bike paths and trails. Community Center in Northeast Johnson County. The Department holds sports programs and community events at various park locations, and in addition to the Mission Family Aquatic Center, the Powell Community Center boasts fitness classes for all ages, personal trainers, strength & cardio equipment, 2 racquetball courts, 2 gyms, and community use space.

Join us on June 25th from 9AM to 12PM at Mission Family Aquatic Center for the World's Largest Swimming Lesson!

This global event highlights the importance of water safety and aims to teach kids essential swimming skills that can help save lives. Our experienced instructors will guide your little ones through basic swimming techniques to ensure they are safe and confident in the water this summer.

We will also hear from the Joseph Pedrotti Memorial Foundation and learn how to prevent underwater hypoxic blackout.

Best of all, this event is free! Don’t miss out on this opportunity to be part of a worldwide effort to promote water safety.

Soccer fever is coming to Mission! Join us at Broadmoor Park in conjunction with the Mission Market for Matchday at the Market on Thursday, June 25. Catch the Group F match between Tunisia and the Netherlands on the big screen and wander over to the market for dinner, drinks, snacks, produce, and more! Match time is 6:00 p.m.

We are a month away from our annual Mission Summer Family Picnic! Treat yourself to a delicious hot dog dinner while engaging in fun family activities, live music from The Good Sam Club Band, and a vibrant beer garden. For our 75th birthday, we’ve added a foam party to the Kids’ Zone!

Remember to bring your favorite lawn chair or blankets to fully enjoy this fantastic evening of summer fun – and it’s all free! Conclude the night with a spectacular laser light show!

If you give a Community Center a Cookie Decorating Class... We're gonna tell you about it!

Learn the art of decorating sugar cookies in this class with guidance from KatieBird Bakery. Each monthly class features a unique theme and includes five cookies, royal icing, and all tools and supplies.

Participants will practice piping, flooding, and detailing techniques while picking up tips for decorating at home. Designed for ages 10 and up, this class is a fun option for a family activity or seasonal outing. Each participant will take home five decorated cookies.

Our next class: Stars, Stripes, and Sweeets! is on June 28 from 1-3PM at the Powell Community Center. Registration is $58/person, registration can be completed online at the link below, in-person, or by calling 913-722-8200.

Due to a previously scheduled swim meet, the Mission Family Aquatic Center (MFAC) will close early at 4:30PM tomorrow, June 16.

This closure only impacts the outdoor pool facility. The Powell Community Center will remain open like normal until 9PM. MFAC will also be closed early at 4:30PM on June 25, and July 2.

During this early closure, MFAC Season Pass holders may visit the following pools at no additional cost while MFAC is closed on these dates (after 4:30PM):

June 16: Fairway, Prairie Village, & Roeland Park pools
June 25: Prairie Village & Roeland Park pools
July 2: Fairway & Roeland Park pools

Ready for a party with some fun in the sun? We've got you covered at the Mission Family Aquatic Center! Rent some or all of our outdoor pool facility and make a splash with one of our party packages. Check out our party options below, and click the link to submit a rental request so we can get your party on the books! Have questions? 2 Star Party: (2 hours)
-$25 security deposit, $175 fee
-Admission for 25 guests, including adults. Additional guests are $8 each.
-All-day admission to MFAC
-Seahorse shelters #1 or #2 for two hours

3 Star Party: (2 hours)
-$25 security deposit, $320 fee
-Admission for 25 attendees, including adults. Additional guests are $12 each.
-Includes: 25 hot dogs, chips, fountain drinks and ice cream
-Seahorse shelters #1 or #2 for 2 hours

4 Star Party: (After Hours)
-$100 security deposit, $250/hr.
-Private pool party with maximum 130 guests
-1 hour time minimum
-Open food policy (concession stand will be closed)
-West pool closed (no lap lanes or diving boards)

5 Star Party: (After Hours)
-$100 security deposit, $350/hr.
-Private pool party with maximum 230 guests
-1 hour time minimum
-Open food policy (concession stand will be closed)

After Hours Party Availability (4 and 5 Star Parties):
-Friday 7:30-10PM
-Saturday 7:30 - 10PM
-Sunday 6:30-10PM

Attention local non-profits: Mission Market has dates available for our free Community Tent. This is a great way to engage with market attendees, get the word out about your services, and build new connections.

The market is held every Thursday evening in June, July, and August from 4:30-8:00 pm. If you are interested, please email [email protected] to check availability and get signed up.
