This Memorial Day looked a little different for me this year . I was not able to be in Mission to read my annual poem because my husband's family planned a long-awaited reunion here in San Antonio. I'm grateful we could get together, even though I missed being back home for this day. And I realize that life does go on!
My Memorial Day
Yes, all gave some, but some gave all,
and so Memorial Day…
For it was with their life,
they, for our freedom, paid.
My son, an army soldier
In a casket did come home,
Like other fallen heroes,
who never made it home.
250 years we’ve fought
the cost of freedom takes its claim.
And in every battle history writes
The sacrifice is still the same.
Though every battlefield does change
The folded flags and tears remain.
And each grave marks our loved one’s name.
So, for ONLY those who paid full price,
for freedom’s not a gift we borrow-
Let us not forget their sacrifice.
paid in blood, and grief and sorrow.
