Good afternoon everyone! The spring football season is about to start and registration has begun! Flag for kids 6 and under and tackle for kids 7-14. Don’t wait to join!! The sooner they start, the faster they develop their athleticism and football IQ.
I understand football has a bad wrap due to the recent studies for head trauma, also known as CTE. I’ve done some decent research into it and reflected upon my career in its early years and I can see where my coaches and I went wrong. Since I’ve started this academy, I’ve come across several people who are hesitant to put their child in football and I completely understand. However, the game of football has changed immensely since I last played as a kid. 29 years and around 200 games ago.
For starters, helmets and equipment have improved drastically. It’s crazy seeing how basic old helmets are. Secondly and most importantly, the technique and the way football is coached has changed. Specifically how to tackle. When I was kid, as defensive player, we were taught to get our head across the ball carrier and knock the s**t outta them. What that meant and did was it put both tackler and ball carrier in positions to hit head to head. Now, everyone is or at least should be taught to attack the inside hip of the ball carrier with their outside shoulder, hit, wrap and bring down. Very similar to how rugby players tackle. This helps prevent the helmet to helmet hits that football was once known for.
I’ve been around some other youth football programs and it’s sad to say their coaching isn’t up to par with the new standards. In fact, there’s very little actual coaching. They just like to run plays and hope for the best. That’s not how I do things. I’m doing everything I can to replicate what I did in high school and college. Individual position practice is just as important as team practice and I can honestly say we have yet to have a serious injury or concussion. I’m hoping some of my parents will hop on here and back my claims up but I f they don’t, it’s ok. I can show you.
Everyone reading this is invited and welcome to come join us for practice and see for yourself. I’d also like for you to check out any other team and compare us to them. I always put my money where my mouth is and this is no different.
Contact me however you’d like if you’re interested. I’m very excited for the future of this program. I’ve won and excelled at every level of football that I’ve played in except middle school. That includes high school, college, indoor arena and semi pro. I didn’t play youth football and it hindered my development and affected my confidence. Don’t let the same happen to your son.
