Congratulations to the 2016 Jim Flick Invitational Winner Michael Block, Arroyo Trabuco Country Club's head professional! His final round score of 71 over the majestic Ocean Course at Cabo del Sol was good enough for a 4-stroke victory over Travis Johns of Chicago, Illinois. Michael’s opening rounds of 63, 65, and 70 gave him a lead for which he never surrendered.
The team event was a nail-biter. It wasn’t until 15 minutes after the cards were turned in was it determined the team headed by Jason Marciniec had indeed held on to their slight lead over Jim Woodward’s team. Jason and his amateur partners Alan Marthinsen, Chris Raftis, and Bill Sarris became the inaugural team champions of the Jim Flick Invitational.
The week was blessed with unbelievable weather and two golf courses in perfect condition. The Ocean Course and the Desert Course at Cabo del Sol were the consummate hosts for the event. The pools at the Fiesta Americana were packed daily, and the evening parties under the stars were fabulous.
The Jim Flick Trophy night successfully raised nearly $40,000.00 for the PGA of America’s Junior League Golf. This evening also featured the awarding of the Jim Flick Trophy to our first honoree. Jackie Nicklaus was on hand to accept to award for his father, Jim Flick’s great friend, and greatest golfer of all time – Jack Nicklaus. After a heartfelt acceptance video that Jack and Mike Malaska produced, Jackie regaled us with some classic stories about he and his father, and their relationship with Jim Flick.
A warm thank you to everyone who joined us this year. We are pleased to be able to honor the life of this wonderful man with so many great friends and supporters. Plans are already underway for the 2017 Jim Flick Invitational.
