One way to escape the pressures and anxieties that come with competing and performing is to adopt the INTENT + FREEDOM OF OUTCOME mindset. We have talked about the intent+ freedom of outcome mindset before, which means that during practice and competition, we intend to do our best, but release and let go of all expectations regarding the results of competitions. Expectations as we know lead to pressure and pressure leads to physical, mental, and emotional stress. To eliminate nerves and anxiety during games and competitions we have to prep our minds. The mind is like a muscle. It must be trained, prepared, and rested.
If we do not do this we become more susceptible to feelings of nervousness, anxiety, fear, and low-confidence.
Meditation, Visualization, and pre-game routines are three prime techniques that will ground us and allow us to stay present during games and comeptitions.

If we try to force ourselves into a flow state, we will overthink, stress, and put pressure on ourselves. We then develop destructive thought patterns resulting in subpar performance. Mastering the 5 key concepts will help significantly with getting into that flow state without the pressure.

The majority of the pressure and stress we feel when performing stems from external factors or things that we cannot control...
The Circle of Control drill will help us recognize the factors that are outside of our control, and help us prioritize the things that are directly within our control. This will help us fully realize the freedom of outcome mindset and will have us playing more carefree, thoughtless, and without pressure during competition.
