Over the past 3 years, we have had the utmost pleasure covering high school sports in Orange County. Over the last two posts, we have highlighted 18 athletes who we regard as a part of the TPS Hall of Fame. To conclude our Hall of Fame, there are 3 final athletes we’d like to highlight who are some of the most memorable and talented athletes in OC high school sports history. To begin, we’d like to honor Austin Overn. Overn was one of the fastest and most dynamic athletes in OC history, who dominated as an outfielder for the Foothill Knights for years, before deciding to take on football senior year. As a wide receiver senior year, Overn broke county and school records, landing him state and national recognition. Overn is now playing baseball as a sophomore at USC, where he was one of the best freshman ballplayers in the country. Next, we’d like to honor Trabuco Hills two sport star Will Burns. Burns was an incredibly talented QB, with an absolute rocket of an arm. He saw the field incredibly well, and was a decisive passer. As an infielder for Trabuco Hills, Burns was a sure handed fielder, and absolutely raked as a hitter. Burns can hit for power and to all parts of the field, and his widespread skill set is what landed him at Texas Tech, where he is playing both baseball and football. Burns is one of the premiere two sport athletes in OC history. Lastly, we’d like to honor Matthew Morrell as the last ‘MVP’, of our Hall of Fame. The Cypress Centurion product, much like Overn and Burns, dominated in football and baseball throughout his time in high school. Morrell racked up huge numbers as a wide out, using his projectable frame and athleticism to constantly get open and make plays. As a RHP and OF, Morrell dominated, and was constantly the best player on the field. Morell hit for incredible power, and was a tough out every time he stepped into the box. Morrell is now a freshman at top ranked Oregon State. These three athletes are part of a special breed of two sport athletes, who dominated and found real success in numerous sports throughout their high school career. Congrats to these three athletes, we can’t wait to see how far you go in your athletic careers!
