Drowning is preventable. Itβs what we do as parents to protect our childrenβΌοΈ Donβt think it wonβt be your child because it happens in an instant. Swimming should be the First Sport to enroll your child in- not gymnastics, soccer, or baseball- SWIMMING. No you donβt need to wait until they are 5 years old. If you enroll in the right swimming program they can self rescue at just 6 months and be swimming by 2 years if you take the right steps as a parent. Itβs a hard truth but it is the truth. Never forget to be the advocate your child needs in their life π©΅
Florida has now lost 80 children to drowning in 2026.
17 of those deaths have happened in July alone.
These are not just statistics. They are children whose lives ended far too soon, and families whose lives will never be the same.
Drowning remains the leading cause of death for children ages 1β4, yet it is preventable. Protection comes from layers of safety:
Constant, undistracted supervision
Self-rescue swim lessons (children can begin as early as 6 months)
Secure barriers with self-closing, self-latching gates
Locked and alarmed doors and windows leading to the pool
Remove or securely lock pet doors
Bright swimwear to help children stay visible in the water
Learn CPR and be prepared to respond in an emergency
