Hello SGLA members!

Your Board of Directors is looking forward to our 2026 SGLA Annual Meeting on Saturday, June 20 at the Woodruff Community Center in Woodruff, WI. Doors open at 8:15 am, meeting starts at 9:00 am.

We are serving a light breakfast from 8:15 to 8:45 am, and all members are welcome! It would be very helpful to us to have an approximate headcount so we can make sure to have enough coffee and breakfast items for everyone. You can RSVP at the link below. Just click on the green "signup" button, tell us how many people in your family plan to attend (called "spots" in the program) and hit "save" when done. As we said, you don't have to RSVP, you can decide at the last minute and show up. We are looking forward to seeing everyone!

For more details including the agenda, board candidate bios and a proxy form if you cannot attend in person, please open and view the attached flyer. If you have any questions, please reply to this email and we will get back to you.

This item came up on a search for Lake Shishebogama. It’s the first time I have heard of it.

It was in the Rhinelander Daily News on April 5, 1939.

Does anyone out there know anything about it?

SGLA!
Wouldn't it be great if we had a voluntary "no lakeside lights" for the rest of the month?

June delivers an exceptional lineup of celestial events, highlighted by an ultra-close conjunction of Venus and Jupiter, a rare lunar occultation, and the summer solstice.

The must-see astronomical events to watch for include:

June 8–9 (Venus & Jupiter Conjunction): The two brightest planets appear exceptionally close together in the western sky just after sunset.

June 11–15 (Mini Planet Parade): Mercury rises to join Venus and Jupiter, forming a striking, compact trio of planets low in the western evening sky.

June 17 (Lunar Occultation of Venus): The crescent Moon passes directly in front of Venus, temporarily "hiding" the planet. This is visible from parts of the Americas.

June 21 (The June Solstice): The Sun reaches its highest point in the Northern Hemisphere, marking the official start of astronomical summer and the longest day of the year.

June 27 (June Bootids Meteor Shower): This meteor shower peaks, offering the potential for unpredictable surges of shooting stars.

June 29 (Strawberry Moon): The month concludes with a full Moon that will appear large, bright, and golden near the horizon.

A History moment from Gerry Klemm, enjoy!

“The first resort on Lake Shishebogama opened in 1895. Ed Walsh’s Resort was located on the southwest corner of South Bay where the new homes of Rustic Retreat are located on Hartman Road. His obituary from 1931 tells his story. I apologize for the poor quality.”

SGLA Members,

Your social committee is excited to announce that we are going to have our first ever SGLA Poker Run on the Water on Saturday, August 8, from 1 - 4 pm. Help us make our summer celebration of our nation's 250th anniversary a special one with this fun event.

We need 5-7 members to volunteer as "host docks." The SGLA Poker Run Committee will provide the cards, flag for your dock and instructions on how you can assist the players as they approach your dock. We will provide more details to everyone about this even once we establish who our host docks are and as the date approaches.

If you are a host dock, you can also participate in the Poker Run, but you would need two people at your dock in order to do both.

If you are interested in being a dock dealer host, simply message us on this page with your name and we will get back to you with more details and information, and you can then make a final decision. Again, we need 5-7 dock dealer hosts to make the event possible.

Thank you!
The SGLA Social Committee

Today, as we gather by the water to kick off the summer, SGLA pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Their courage and dedication protect the peaceful days we get to enjoy on the lake.
