Hello!

Did anyone find a yellow ski that has Evolution on it? We were told a pontoon picked it up. Thank you!

BOOK CLUB THANKS AND A REMINDER.

Our August Book Club meet-up last Thursday was another one for the 'books' as we discussed the layered novel James by Percival Everett. We enjoyed a very spirited conversation that was artfully led by Susan Welz. Trinka Waters was our thoughtful hostess for the evening and provided a wonderful array of refreshments. The evening was a great success as always!

The final Book Club meet-up will be held on September 24th. We'll be discussing the bestseller and award winning novel Pachinko by Min Jin Lee. The book Is an epic multigeneration saga of a Korean family who emigrates to Japan and deals with the painful legacy of Japanese occupation of Korea. This eye-opening novel examines another story of persecution that isn't discussed enough! Chris Denniston will be our lead and hostess for this meet-up.

Date: Thursday, September 24,
Time: 6:00pm

The SGLA Social Committee & Poker Run team — Kristi Benson, Sue Holle, Donette Zander, and lead Joyce Carani — would like to share our heartfelt thanks with everyone who helped with and joined us for our first SGLA Poker Run.

It truly was a beautiful day to enjoy our lakes and come together in celebration of America’s 250th Anniversary.

We were delighted to welcome 123 registered participants, and we are especially grateful to our dock host volunteers — the Broderick, Spranger, Holle, Jablonski, Lust, Soule, and Popovich families. Your kindness and enthusiasm made this event possible.

We also extend warm thanks to Len Roecker and Marty Krebs for installing the dock flags, and to Rockwood Country Club for generously allowing us to use their pier. Your support helped make the day memorable for everyone.

Congratulations to all of our winners:

1st Place: Nancy Berndt $615

2nd Place: Matthew Yacobucci $430

3rd Place: Paul Moyer $185

4th Place: Paul Martin – customized lake flannel shirt (donated by Deb Sheldon-Yeargin)

Lowest Hand: Laura Smylie

We look forward to next year, thank you! 🇺🇸♥️

SGLA Members

To continue our celebration our countries 250 years and to also share in the love we have for our Association, the SGLA merchandise team met recently and are happy to announce that we have new vendors offering a variety of embroidered and printed SGLA clothing and hats. We are also offering youth sizes and men and women's clothing in a wider range of sizes.

On the clothing, the SGLA logo will appear in the left chest area at normal height, even if you don't see the logo displaying on the ordering links. More great news is that you have a choice to ship your order directly to you (shipping fees apply) or you can ship it free to a member of our SGLA merchandise team and we will personally deliver it to you when it arrives. How nice is that?

The links to order SGLA merchandise is also featured on the homepage of our SGLA website in case you lose this email: Shishebogama Gunlock Lake Association

Our June Book Club met for an excellent discussion centered around Martha Ballard, a famous Revolutionary period midwife. Ariel Lawhon’s The Frozen River was the perfect read to help SGLA celebrate America's 250th birthday! Thanks to everyone who came out for the wonderful turnout. A huge thank you goes to Carol Pozniak for hosting us in her home, and to Judy Popovich for leading such a spirited and engaging conversation!

The July book club selection is North Woods by David Mason. North Woods is the story of a place and all the human and non-human occupants that lived in this secluded western Massachusetts house over the past 400 years. North Woods has won numerous awards and is considered one of the ten best novels of 2023!

We'll be meeting on Thursday, July 23rd for this event at Barb Brown's home. Susan Holle will be our discussion lead. More details on the meet-up will be shared soon. Limited copies of the book are at the Minocqua Library but call to confirm. We're looking forward to the event, and all are welcome!

Finally, we'd like to share a quick schedule change. The book for September has been changed to Pachinko by Min Jin Lee.

Happy reading!

Thanks,

Nancy, Chris, and Trinka
