My mom was the most important person in my life. She taught me about the power of persistence, positive thinking, and making life special. I lost her in 2018, after a 20 year, ferocious battle against cancer.

Every year for her birthday, a day which is actually the same as my own, I do what I can to remember her. This softball clinic is my birthday present to her - a day for women to support women.

This year's clinic will be Sunday, May 15th. Registration is open now. https://cncfastpitch.com/event/3rd-annual-joan-memorial-softball-clinic

Our annual memorial softball clinic raises money for National Breast Cancer Foundation and The Pink Fund to help women with breast cancer fight their battles.

Last year we had a beautiful event, with over 65 participants, an all women coaching staff, and raised over $3000. This year, we want to raise $5000.

This will be an awesome event, with a talented all women coaching staff featuring some of the best of MN.

Sara Moulton and Maddie Damon of Strike Zone Sports will be leading our pitching session, while I'll be leading catching. General Hitting and defense will feature coaches from Misson and the MN Bombers.

Special thanks to our sponsors Mission Fastpitch Strike Zone Sports, CKS Summit Group , S&C Sports Services, and Eden Prairie Fastpitch Association for making this happen.

Going all out is a mindset. When you commit to it, it happens for you.

It takes a mental switch. It takes believing in yourself, and wanting to give it all for the team.

It's easy to have doubts. It's easy to think you can't. It's easy to think this will never be you.

But you have it in you. I promise.

I'm really big on footwork - on being quick, on changing directions well.

When you take more, smaller, faster steps, you're able to react mid play. You're able to adjust. You're able to grow your range. It's about staying active from the ground up to make those big plays.

I think it's a good life skill. Moving quick, failing fast, setting yourself up to be able to make changes mid course so you can readjust to reach the best outcome. It's part of being flexible and doing little bits at a time to build the best version of you.

Anyways, shameless plug for tiktok. Go follow us there, there are twice as many drills.

It's a new season for me with a whole new group. I always start with going back to the basics. Back to the little things.

Everytime I start a new season I remember why I love coaching so much. The kids are all so eager, and ready to grow. They want knowledge, they want to be challenged. I get to show them how to exceed their own expectations, reach new potentials they didn't know they had.

It's fun. It's beautiful. It gives me energy.

So here's to a new season. To starting at the basics, and building up some confident, determined kids.

A bit of bunt defense. It's important.

A well executed bunt changes a game. But if you can be quick, anticipate, and cover ground you can make the big defensive play for your team.

One of the reasons I like this drill so much is it forces you to confront your fears.

As a catcher, sometimes there's a lot of fear. That it's too fast, or we'll get hurt, or we aren't good enough.

But we are. Sometimes you just need the reminder that you're capable of doing hard things. That you can trust yourself and that your teammates do too.

Build that trust. Believe in you. You're more than capable.

One of my favorite off season drills, because it forces you to face your fears.

It gets scary getting so close to the machine. Everything is quick. The reaction time goes away.

You make it through by trusting yourself. Taking a deep breath and slowing it all down in your mind so you can see clearly. Thinking positive and getting outside your comfort zone.

You got this.

Sound on! A quick demo we went over in our catching Clinic this past Sunday. Throwing from your knees doesn't have to be hard, just use your legs!

I'm still so overwhelmed by the support from Sunday. Women supporting women is a beautiful thing.

I'm overwhelmed.

Today, we raised $3289 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the The Pink Fund. We had over 65 kids register and attend the 2nd Annual Joan Memorial Clinic.

First of all, thank you so much to the coaches - Katja McKiernan, Sara Moulton Leaon , Kelsey Anderson, AnnaMarie Alexandra Martino, Lizzy Walker, Stella Dolan, Nicole Tobon, and Allie Benning. It's rare to see all women led clinic like this, with such talented coaches to be role models for the girls. And to do it for a cause like this, to support women fighting their battles, is incredible. You guys did great.

Second, a HUGE thank you to Eden Prairie Fastpitch Association for hosting and donating their beautiful fields. You guys made this happen. Chad Creager, you especially, thank you.

Lastly, another HUGE thank you to our event sponsors MN Waves , Strike Zone Sports, Nicole Tobon - Softball Students Recruiting Mentor , Beech Agency, CKS Summit Group, and Arctic Blast.

Mom - I love you. And I miss you. It felt special to spend the day reminding people to "Think Positive" just like you taught me to. We did a lot of good today. I hope you're out there somewhere smiling. Happy Birthday.

It's Mother's day. And officially ONE WEEK until the Joan Memorial Clinic.

Mom - I have a present for you. To date, we've raised $900 in sponsor donations and over $1000 in registrations. We're getting close to our goal. And I'm so excited I'm able to do this for you.

I even made shirts for it, with your saying on it - Think Positive. You taught me so much about building the right mindset. I miss you everyday.

For everyone else, we have a week left. If you're in the Twin Cities area and are free on Sunday, give this a try. It'll help women fighting breast cancer, and will be a great day of softball.

Who was my mom? Why do I do a memorial clinic for her birthday?

Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was 3. And she beat it. Not once. But three times over the next twenty years.

I never realized what battle she was really going through. She was all about positive energy, thinking good things into existence, being kind, and making every experience special. On chemo days, her and my aunt made it a party - they brought presents for all the patients, decorated her treatment chair, and would go celebrate after. All while wearing heels.

What did that teach me? That resiliency makes warriors. That if you really believe in yourself, if you think positive, you can overcome more than you thought. That you can fight your battles and still be kind. That life is about making the most of every experience.

I use this to coach. I use it to make my players good teammates, good people. So I do this clinic for three reasons. To give the players a great experience, with great coaches, great drills, and just a day to rememeber. To spend a day, our birthday, doing what I love, in a way that helps me remember the most impactful person in my life. And to pay it forward to other inspiring women fighting their own battles, in hopes maybe their loved ones get a little more time with them.

I hope to see you there. Sunday May 16.
