One of our Emergency Trauma Care course alums found themselves at the scene of a bad motorcycle accident on Friday night.
The rider had lost control on a curve and impacted with the guardrail. Among other injuries were serious, life-threatening bleeding from his arm, which had been mangled in the crash.
Our student applied a tourniquet, which controlled the bleeding, and monitored the rider until police arrived and took over the scene.
The rider was taken to the hospital where they are being treated for multiple injuries. His arm had to be amputated and he needed a blood transfusion. He is currently in ICU.
He will have a long road ahead, but there is little doubt that if it had not been for the quick actions of our student, they would have died at the scene.
Well done!
