We’re very sad to report that our friend and longtime ISLA supporter, LA County Lifeguard Chief Bob Burnside (Ret.) has passed away. Chief Burnside was the First President of the Surf Life Saving Association of America which later became the USLA. He invented the "Burnside Rescue Buoy" that we use today. A Lifeguard, an innovator and a fierce competitor, few people have had the impact that "Monoski Bob" has had on lifesaving.

A memorial & paddle out for Matthew Ehrlich is planned for this Saturday, Dec. 14th at 9am at Cabrillo Beach
3800 Stephen M. White Drive, San Pedro, CA 90731.
Paddle out will begin at 930am.

Please join Maria, Connor, family and friends as we honor Matt one last time.

Matt Ehlrich passed away suddenly on Sunday, November 10th. He left behind his wife Maria and 1 year old son Connor. His family and many friends are devastated by his passing. Matt was a Marine Corps Veteran, Los Angeles City Lifeguard and was recently employed by the City of Long Beach. Matt will be remembered as a loving husband, the best daddy, a great son and brother and the guy in the room with the loudest laugh. Maria and Connor have been surrounded by family and friends to help get them through this difficult time. No money in the world can fill the void they will have for the rest of their lives but it can help pick up some of the pieces and help Maria give Connor everything he deserves. Hands only cpr for amateurs is dangerous and it must stop. Please share. This is a danger to society. It involves a minutes long course without sufficient training to even take a pulse or breathing. Simply blast away on someone’s chest if they are unconscious. PLEASE SHARE!!!!!

I hope I never temporarily faint of dehydration or similar still breathing and beating, and some moron starts blasting on my ribs to put me in the hospital for months. Either learn it or don’t.

On the 4th of July, someone came up to the stand and said, "my friend is asleep and won't wake up." We asked where, and he said they were sitting far back in the crowd. I told my partner to take the radio and I will watch where he goes. The crew went running and I pointed from my stand back into the crowd to show them the exact location. The patient was revived with Narcan.

⚠️Boating can be fun but it can also be very dangerous! Apparently this fishing vessel ran into some problems and while it was being towed its lines got caught in the prop and had to be cut! ⛴⚓️ You can find the beached vessel just East of field 6 at Jones Beach.
