This past week marked the 10 year anniversary of opening our doors at CrossFit Garden City. Fittingly, we "celebrated" the occasion with a 10k run that started at our original home (42 Nassau Blvd), headed across town to CFGC version 2.0 (585 Commercial Ave) and ended at our current digs (180 East Second Street). ⁣

Every step of the run seemed to bring along with it another recollection, memory or emotion from the past 10 years, of which there are too many to count. What a journey it has been!⁣

Of all the thoughts that came to mind the one that kept resurfacing was how surprisingly good I felt on the run and how easy it felt, despite not having run more than a couple miles in one clip in quite some time (as in years). It was as if I was being carried along, supported and encouraged by everyone else that was running that day, or more broadly, that had "run" with us as part of our community over the years. ⁣

And it just seemed to be the perfect metaphor for having this community by my side for the past decade, encouraging and supporting me through both good and bad times and the many ups and downs of life. Being part of CFGC has enriched my life in so many ways and made the good times THAT much better and the bad times MUCH easier to bear. ⁣

We opened our doors 10 years ago with the hope of having a positive impact on people's lives. We had no idea how much positive impact those people would have on us in return and how many incredible friends we would make in the process. THANK YOU to EVERYONE that has EVER stepped foot in our doors.

Veteran’s Day is Wednesday, November 11. To honor those who served, we encourage you to perform the Hero WOD, “Chad,” during Open Gym on Sunday, November 8 from 9 to 11 am. You can also complete the workout at any time on Wednesday.⁣

Together with Sara Wilkinson, we bring you the hero workout "CHAD”, in honor of Navy SEAL Chad Wilkinson who took his life on October 29, 2018 due to the effects of numerous deployments, several TBIs, blast wave injuries and PTSD. Our goal is to honor Chad's life and legacy and by raising awareness for su***de prevention. ⁣

Here’s how you can help. Commit to doing the Hero WOD “CHAD” - the workout Chad created to train for a mountain climb in South America - that did to honor his late friend. Buy the t-shirt and patch, start training up, and recruit friends to train with you for the next 4 weeks, then plan to do the hero workout with us and others all over the world on Veterans Day. Everything is better with friends. All proceeds from CHAD 1000X patches and t-shirts sold will go to brain and mental health programs funded by the , an official GORUCK partner. Calling all former, current, and future members! CrossFit Garden City is excited to be celebrating our tenth anniversary this November. We figured there is no better way to celebrate and honor a decade of fitness than hitting the pavement for a 10k Run on Sunday, November 22nd at 9 am. Join us, and please spread the word by sharing this post on your stories!

As a special ode to our history, the run starts at 42 Nassau Blvd (our original home), continues to 585 Commercial Ave (CFGC version 2.0), and then we will turn around at 585 and head north, ending up at our current location: 180 East Second Street.

Sign up for the run by emailing us at [email protected]. In addition to the standard 10k option, we'll have a 4-mile option, a 2.5-mile option, and an RX+ Half Marathon option. No matter how you choose to celebrate, we're so grateful to honor this milestone with you.

Our weekly CrossFit class schedule:⁣
• Mon-Fri: 5am, 7am, 9am, 12:30pm, 4pm, 5:30pm, 7pm⁣
• Sat: 7am, 8:30am, 10am⁣

Our weekly Boot Camp class schedule:⁣
• Mon-Fri: 6am, 10am⁣
• Mon-Fri: 8am online Zoom class⁣

We have strict safety protocols in place during ALL classes: ⁣
• Socially distanced setup⁣
• Adherence to strict cleaning protocols⁣
• No sharing of equipment⁣
• Indoor and outdoor workout spaces⁣
• Electrostatically-disinfected facility⁣
• Health Department-approved operations⁣

Those of you that know me know that I am not easily excited. But, I can honestly say that I am experiencing this ever-elusive emotion by committing today to join the Kresser Institute's Adapt Health Coach Training Program.⁣

It has come to light recently that a paltry 12% of our country is considered metabolically healthy. Poor health, sickness, anxiety, depression and chronic disease are rampant and affect the overwhelming majority of our population. Surely, if you are not experiencing one of these conditions yourself, you likely know many people who are, and sadly, we are trending in the wrong direction. ⁣

My personal mission for the second half of my life is to do whatever is in my power to help reverse this trend, further the mission to eradicate chronic disease and contribute to changing the future of health so that my children and yours can live in a happier, healthier world. ⁣

Let me start by apologizing on behalf of the entire health and fitness industry. We have failed you…miserably. We have somehow led you to believe that achieving your health and fitness goals is “easy”, and only requires “a few minutes a day” and that you can “eat all of your favorite foods and still effortlessly lose weight.” These are just a few of the dozens of face-palm worthy claims I’ve heard over the years.⁣

But, if you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem; so, let me start by saying that you are being lied to:⁣

• Achieving health and fitness is not easy, it’s hard and requires discipline and discomfort.⁣
• It requires more than a few minutes a day. It’s actually a 24-hour, 7 day a week commitment.⁣
• You cannot eat all of your favorite foods and effortlessly lose weight. Most, if not all, of your favorite foods are contributing very specifically towards preventing you from losing bodyfat and achieving health.⁣
• And this list can go on and on and on…⁣

Updated Weekly Schedule⁣

We are expanding our outdoor class offerings beginning tomorrow.⁣

Our new Outdoor Class schedule is as follows: ⁣
• Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 7am, 9am, 6pm⁣
• Saturday: 9am⁣
• All classes will take place at St. Paul's School in Garden City (unless otherwise noted)⁣

We are also expanding our Open Gym hours as follows: ⁣
• Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday: 10am-2pm⁣
• Open Gym takes place in the parking lot at the gym, 180 East Second Street, Mineola. ⁣
