She was picking up what I was putting down 👀

This is some of my advance group. Sometimes I give them situations and see if they recognize it 🧐

I changed my position.

She caught the hint.

💥 Sn**ch single.

That tells me she’s learning how to read wrestling, not just memorize techniques.

That’s the type of growth we’re looking for at Ummah Wrestling.

🤼 Beginners and experienced wrestlers are welcome.

He wasn’t finna fall for it twice. 😂

First trip was 🥱 EASY.

Second trip he:

🦵 Hips back
💪🏾 Elbow down
✋🏾 Down block

Now he made me get funky lol.

THAT’S wrestling.

You can’t just know moves.

You gotta know what to do when somebody figures you out.

December…

First tournament ever.

23 seconds.

Match over.

You could almost see it on his face…

“I get it now.”

Fast forward a few months. March…

He’s scoring takedowns, making decisions, and places to qualify for the Wisconsin Youth State Tournament.

That’s what happens when a wrestler trusts the process and keeps coming back.

This is why I love coaching beginners.

Four months can change everything.

The goal isn’t to be great on Day 1.

The goal is to be better than yesterday.

If you only drill one side, eventually someone will force you to the other. A lot of wrestlers stop after one turn because they don’t know how to transition to the next turn.

Today’s drill teaches wrestlers to:
✔️ Attack from both sides.
✔️ Keep pressure during transitions.
✔️ Stay comfortable rolling through.
✔️ Chain multiple tilts together.

The more situations you practice, the less you have to think during a match.

Most coaches teach moves.

I try to teach pictures.

If a wrestler can see it in their mind, they’re more likely to do it under pressure.

Today’s lesson:
✔️ Spiral Ride Changeover

• Big step over.
• Cover the opposite side.
• Spiral again.
• Far knee. Far ankle.
• Back to the mat.

I keep most demonstrations under 5 minutes.

Less talking.
More drilling.
More learning.

So we brought wrestling to them.
