💙 The words we choose matter more than we may realize.

When communicating with someone living with dementia, certain phrases can unintentionally create confusion, anxiety, frustration, or resistance. What we say—and how we say it—plays a critical role in shaping the emotional experience of the person receiving our message.

Person-centered communication isn't about correcting, testing, or controlling. It's about supporting dignity, reducing distress, and creating opportunities for connection and success.

What if dementia training could do more than educate your team?

Organizations that invest in evidence-based dementia training often see benefits that extend far beyond compliance—including stronger staff confidence, improved care consistency, reduced burnout, enhanced family trust, and a more dementia-capable culture.

📖 Our latest press release explores why organizational dementia training is one of the most valuable investments a healthcare or senior living organization can make:

When care partners are equipped with practical strategies, a shared language, and a deeper understanding of functional cognition, they are better prepared to support individuals living with dementia while strengthening organizational performance.

💙 Dementia care training isn't just a staff development initiative—it's a strategic investment in your people, your culture, and the quality of care you provide.

💙 Why should an organization strive to become a Dementia Workforce Leader?

Creating a dementia-capable workforce goes beyond meeting training requirements—it helps organizations build confidence, consistency, and a shared approach to supporting individuals living with dementia.

When team members understand how to recognize remaining abilities, respond to unmet needs, and apply person-centered strategies, they are better equipped to provide meaningful support while improving outcomes for those in their care.

Organizations that invest in dementia education are investing in their people, their culture, and the quality of care they deliver every day.

🌱 Building a dementia-capable workforce starts with empowering teams through knowledge, understanding, and practical application.

🎥 Watch the video as Lana Dorffer, Director of Dementia Care Specialists, shares why becoming a Dementia Workforce Leader can make a meaningful difference for organizations, care teams, and the individuals they support.

It’s World Allergy Week, and it’s a great reminder that even small physical discomforts can have a meaningful impact on someone living with dementia. 💙

When communication becomes more difficult, things like allergies, headaches, congestion, or irritation may not always be expressed with words. Instead, discomfort may appear through changes in mood, restlessness, withdrawal, or distress.

That’s why person-centered observation matters so much in dementia care. Looking beyond the behavior and staying curious about possible unmet needs can help care partners better support comfort, wellness, and quality of life.

Simple environmental adjustments, awareness of seasonal triggers, and thoughtful observation can make everyday experiences feel more manageable and reassuring for the individuals we support.

🌱 Sometimes the smallest signs can tell us the most important things.

How do you recognize subtle signs of discomfort in those you care for? Share your insights below. 👇

Health and wellness play an important role in quality of life—for individuals living with dementia, care partners, and caregivers alike. 💙

As we recognize Men’s Health Week, we want to acknowledge the men making a meaningful impact throughout the dementia care community every day: professional caregivers, healthcare professionals, husbands, sons, family members, and advocates.

At Dementia Care Specialists, we believe person-centered care begins with supporting the whole person. Prioritizing physical health, emotional well-being, connection, and balance can positively influence both overall wellness and brain health over time.

Whether it’s staying active, attending regular checkups, reducing stress, or taking time to recharge, small steps toward wellness can make a meaningful difference—not only for those providing care, but for those receiving it as well.

🌱 This week serves as an important reminder that caregivers and care professionals deserve support and wellness too.

It’s CNA and HHA Appreciation Week, and we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible professionals who are at the heart of dementia care. 💙

Whether supporting individuals in senior living communities, healthcare settings, or one-on-one in the home, Certified Nursing Assistants and Home Health Aides do far more than assist with daily tasks. They build trust, create meaningful connections, recognize subtle changes, and help bring person-centered care to life every single day.

In dementia care especially, these roles are essential. CNAs and HHAs help reduce distress, support independence, encourage engagement, and ensure individuals living with dementia feel seen, heard, and valued.

Their compassion and dedication make a lasting impact not only on those receiving care, but also on families, care teams, and entire communities.

🌱 To all the CNAs and HHAs: Thank you for the patience, empathy, and dignity you bring to every interaction. Your work truly matters.

Nursing assistants are so much more than staff—they are at the heart of person-centered dementia care. 💙

As we celebrate National Nursing Assistants Week (June 11–17), we want to recognize the incredible CNAs and care partners who bring compassion, patience, and dignity into every interaction.

You are often the ones creating the moments that matter most—turning daily routines into opportunities for connection, reassurance, purpose, and joy. By focusing on what individuals living with dementia can still do, rather than what has been lost, you help support quality of life in meaningful ways every single day.

Your dedication, skill, and empathy make a lasting impact not only on those you support, but also on their families, care teams, and communities.

🌱 Thank you for the work you do, the trust you build, and the person-centered care you bring to every moment.

💙 Thank You, Argentum!

We had a wonderful time connecting with so many passionate professionals dedicated to improving the lives of older adults and individuals living with dementia.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, shared their experiences, explored our training programs, and entered our raffle. These conversations are what make events like this so meaningful.

🎉 Congratulations to our raffle winner! We hope you enjoy your Dementia Care Certified Instructor (DCC-CI) registration and look forward to seeing the positive impact it creates within your organization.

The conversation doesn't stop here. We’re excited to continue connecting with care leaders, providers, and industry professionals this fall at the National Alliance for Care at Home Annual Meeting & Expo in Washington, D.C., October 27–30, 2026. The event brings together leaders from across home health, hospice, palliative care, home care, and related care-at-home services to explore innovative solutions, industry trends, and strategies for improving person-centered care.

We hope to see you there!

06/03/2026

June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, but at Dementia Care Specialists, we believe awareness is only the first step. 💜

True awareness means looking beyond the diagnosis to see the person. It means shifting the conversation from what is lost to what remains.

Our mission is to empower care partners through the “Can Do” spirit—using evidence-based approaches, including Allen Cognitive Levels, to help identify and support each person’s remaining abilities, no matter where they are in their journey.

When we change how we see dementia, we change how we provide care. We move from simply managing a condition to supporting dignity, purpose, connection, and quality of life.

This month, let’s go beyond the purple ribbons. Let’s commit to recognizing the person behind the diagnosis and creating more compassionate, person-centered support for individuals living with dementia. ✨
