McRae/Ireland Field Grandstand Project McRae/Ireland Field Grandstand Project Blue Mountain Babe Ruth is spear heading a project to rebuild the grandstands at the McRae/Ireland (Legion) Field.

This will be similar to the original wood structure that was removed in 2009 but will be masonry construction. It will have a covered seating area with a press box at the top. Under the seating area will be restrooms, umpire changing room, storage and a larger area as a baseball club house which will also be available for other local clubs needing a place to meet. As of October 2011, Babe Ruth has

secured almost 2/3 of the needed funding to begin construction in the fall of 2012. Major contributors have been the Sherwood Trust, Milton Freewater Area Foundation and The Wildhorse Foundation. We currently have an application in with The Ford Family Foundation and they have visited the field to review the project.

The stadium plans have been submitted to the state of Oregon for approval so once they return we can break ground. We still continue fund raising activities but we currently have enough funding to get the grand stand built.

July 10- We are almost there.......... MF School Board elected to put $10,000 toward the project so we are now within $5000 of having a fully funded project. We have ordered some of the material we need, have removed soil sample from the site and are putting the final touches on the structure plans. We will still be fund raising throughout the summer so if you want to get your name on a plaque let us know. Thanks to all you supporters, we will be building in a few months. Stan

May 21 news update. Signed the official contract with USKH, the engineering firm designing the grandstand, so we will have construction plans by the end of June. Received $10,000 from Eurus and $5,000 from Wildhorse so we are at $30,000 toward our goal of $48,000.

April 16 and we are up to $13,500 toward our $48K goal. We will fully engage the engineering firm the first of May to get the final design started so we are on our way. We have some outstanding grant requests but still could use some community support.

Had dinner with the the Milton Freewater American Legion group last night and talked to them about the grandstand project. They are very supportive and will help spread the word. Also the Milton Freewater Little League has given a nice donation so to date we are at $12000 toward our $48k goal. Bruce and I will meet with the engineering firm Thursday to begin the final details of the construction.

So far we have rased $254,000 for this project. Right now we are working towards a $48,000 matching grant of which we have around $10,000. $38,000 more to go and we will have a new stadium!

Had a meeting with the M-F school Board last week. The Board was very supportive of the project and will convene on potential future support.

Received a check from the elks club this week and gave a presentation to the Community Development Partnership. Word should be getting out.
