The last day of the September bull season I headed into the woods with my daughter a cell cam and my call to check out an area I’d seen a few moose in last winter. Little did I know what we found would set off a 2 week obsession for me. The first night i got 75 pictures on the wallow i made and then it was just him passing thru here and there. I searched the lottery page and came across Tammy Gray from Hudson. I sent her a message started talking with her husband Roger and when we finally met up we realized we’ve known each other for quite a few years. I showed them all the videos and pictures I had and they were hooked. Monday I was already dedicated to be in zone 3 and we came up with a plan for them to hunt what they had scouted since the drawing and they said no problem. I messaged Roger at 8pm Monday night and said meet me at my house 530. As I was pulling into my driveway at 1215 the camera dinged, it was him.
We had 1 mile from the truck to the camera. We had walked about 3/4 of a mile and at 712 my watch vibrated and said new photo.
500 yards away. We tucked into the side of the road and just waited for what felt like an eternity for him to come around the corner and up the hill. He stopped at 65 yards and Tammy drilled him. He spun and took off down the road I sprinted down and around the corner and watched him disappear into the woods. We found him 10 yards off the road piled into a tree. We stood in disbelief just staring at him and what we had just accomplished.
Roger and Tammy thank you again for trusting me to guide a very special permit for all of us, in an area that we are from. And an area i would have never imagined this giant would live.

Zone 17 53” 803 pounds and a true giant that we will never forget

Hunt #2 for the week was a donated tag by Rich’s son to a disabled marine veteran. We just couldn’t be in the right places at the right time or with the right wind yesterday. I asked Jesse cote to tag along today and we made it happen at 825 this morning. 230 yard shot with a 6.5 creedmoor and a follow up shot with the 300 win mag dropped her.

Late post for week 2 bull hunts. Chris came all the way from Missouri for his first moose hunt in zone 2. We put 14 miles on before we had our first response at last light. I was able to make him mad enough he stepped out at 35 yards with literally seconds left of legal light and Chris never hesitated when I said good bull dump him. One shot from his antique .350 Re*****on magnum sealed the deal. Completely separated the heart and still ran 20 yards before tipping over.

My last hunt of the week I picked up Thursday afternoon in zone 6. We called in a bull 5 mins into or first set but couldn’t seal the deal on him. We hunted until dark where we located 2 bulls. With a solid plan for Friday morning we went back in. Sure enough 2 bulls from 2 different directions were on their way to us. Watching the smaller bull we determined he was plan B. 5 mins later plan A stepped out at 20 yards and Steve fired one shot and dropped him! 750 pounds 45 inches.

Good luck on your grand slam the hardest parts are done!

Shoutout to Jesse Cote and Danny for coming to help retrieve!
