Advanced Camp Day 3-

Great flatwork lesson working on improving our seat, position, balance and rhythm. We did pole work and lengthening/shortening the stride at canter. Great takeaways for all! The second half of the day was a braiding mini clinic with Hannah Keegan, learning various types of braiding techniques- yarn, thread, bands. They even learned how to do beautiful show braids for breeds with long manes. Thank you Hannah for a very informational and hands on session. Now students just need to practice, practice, practice!

Day 2 of Advanced Camp was all about working hard and playing hard! We spent the first part of the day out on the XC course and then enjoyed an afternoon relaxing on the Shenandoah. Super proud of our horse/rider pairs for their bravery trying new things and giving their horses patience in the teaching moments. Way to go! We have big homework and takeaways and can’t wait to get back out again.

Big moment here today as our Jackie Blue decided she was ready to be a riding horse again. Jackie came off the track in December, 2024, and required surgery a few months after that. Her surgery and rehab were successful but we wanted to make sure she had a proper let down and time to heal. For the past few months we’ve been working with her on the lunge. She seems to want a job so today we gave her one- lunge quietly and let us lean over her back at the mounting block. Unphased by this, our rider threw a leg over. Quiet and calm. She was quiet on the lunge line and eager to try everything we asked.

Her track connections reported she was quiet, sensible and smart. We are looking forward to continuing her journey as a riding horse. Awesome job getting her going today AL and KB!

Adult Camp Session 1 has been so much fun! We have a great group of adult students who are eager to deepen their connection to equines through learning in and out of the saddle. We kicked off camp with a dressage lesson. We worked on developing an independent seat through proper use of aides, balance, straightness and rhythm. Much improvement was seen in rider position! Today, we enjoyed a trail ride today followed by a long lining lesson with Shannon. What we will touch on next? Stay tuned to find out!

We’ve had a busy, action-packed week at Windy Willow Equestrian. Our first Pony Pals camp of 2026 was loads of fun with the most amazing group of children and families. Our tiniest riders improved so much this week and we are so impressed with the enthusiasm they had for everything horse! High heat indexes didn’t stop us from having horsie fun. Today we took our lesson into the shade and then had a sq**rt gun activity to cool everyone off. We are going to miss this group!

It was another long but fantastic day at Upperville Jump For Fun. It was all jumpers today and our riders and horses were on 🔥! The course was beautifully laid out and the perfect mix of challenging and fun.

Lois Lane and Liv C rocked their first division, going fast, accurate and clear. We joke that Lulu can study the course ringside (and she seriously does watch it) and then sail through it flawlessly. And that’s what she did. Cool, calm and perky eared on both trips. Stellar job!

Ava L and Denver RMH blazed through some bigger jumps in the warm up, testing out a meter oxer. In the course they went fast & clear both rounds. Denver is only 6 and this pair has buckled down and crushed their goals. This was their first jumper show together and to see this level of confidence and performance is outstanding. Denver has been working on his changes and after today I’d say he has his changes 95% and is even throwing in some flying changes. Good boy figuring out that being balanced feels good. Ava has been delightful to coach and is one smart, competitive athlete! SUPER JOB TODAY!

Deionte came to play today. He brought his jumper sass into the warmup ring and I wasn’t sure how he would unleash his pent up energy in the ring. Well, he showed up and nailed his rounds. Fast, clear and accurate! A huge jump and tricky landing at fence 10 on her second course was the biggest “save” I’ve seen. Liv literally rode him like a body surfer for a few seconds before righting herself back in her saddle. Deionte jumps big and round so you’d better buckle up and ride that jump. We’ll be talking about the last few seconds of that round for years to come. Really great rides today and your confidence out on the course paid off!

Thank you UJ4F for putting on such a great show. Shout out to Shannon K, Jason S, Ashley & Bryan L for your help today- holding horses, our team dog, fetching water, Shannon’s help coaching and Jason driving the rig back. We’re so thankful for our barn family support!

Team WWE got out today to prep for upcoming shows. After almost a week of rain, slick fields and chilly weather horses took a hot minute to buckle down and get to work. Dressage students went first and ran through tests. Jumpers followed. We set up a fun little course that was a nice mix of longer distances and bending lines. Good job everyone!
