Too often we see and hear about folks in dire situations while attempting to enjoy the wilderness. Our mission is to educate novices to well seasoned outdoor adventurers in how proper planning, preparation and decision making can turn any outdoor experience under any circumstances safe and enjoyable. Our focuses include: What to bring, map reading/route planning, time control plans, energy control plans, meal planning/hydration and the all important decision making.

Winter weather at the top of New England!

You're looking at some rime ice on the Mount Washington summit sign, and the summit cairn. Rime ice is frozen fog! The strong winds cause the supercooled water droplets to freeze on impact (in this case with the sign and rocks), then the ice forms like feathers into the wind as droplets continue to accumulate.

If you or anyone you know is planning on hiking this weekend, keep in mind there will be winterlike temps/wind chills as you reach the higher peaks. Be prepared!
