Lieutenant Chris Higgins died in the line of duty on January 11, 2025, while on scene at a house fire in Laurel, Maryland. Chris was a 23-year veteran of Montgomery County Fire & Rescue, receiving numerous lifesaving awards throughout his career for acts of bravery and commitment to his job. At age 16, before starting his career, he began volunteering at Earleigh Heights VFC in Anne Arundel County as a live in. As a life member of 30 years, he received numerous awards, including Firefighter of the Year, served on the board of directors, and headed various committees. It is where he met and fell in love with his wife, Lisa.

At age five, he learned to play ice hockey. He continued his love of hockey, playing for 41 years on various teams including the Montgomery Police/Fire hockey team and Montgomery’s current fire hockey team, the Hooligans.

Come skate with us, watch some hockey and support the Montgomery County Career Firefighters Charitable Foundation and the Anne Arundel County Firefighters Charitable Foundation in honor of Lieutenant Chris Higgins.

Free skate rental, raffle items and 50/50 will all be available. We can’t wait to see you there!!

A month ago, the Anne Arundel County Fire Dept. Pickheads faced off against AAPD Hockey in the fourth annual Arundel Cup benefiting the foundation.

After finally crunching all the numbers, we are very proud to announce that a total of $6,539 was raised in one night based on ticket sales, merchandise sales and Maryland Black Bears warm up jersey auctions.

On behalf of the Anne Arundel County Pickheads, AAPD Hockey, the Maryland Black Bears and the Krueger Hat Trick Foundation, we’d like to extend a very loud THANK YOU to everyone who attended and made this night so special.

No family should have to go through congenital heart disease alone and your donation makes the lives of these families a little bit easier.đź’š

This Friday is the day folks… Anne Arundel County Police vs Anne Arundel County Fire Dept. putting it all on the line on one ice sheet in honor of the foundation.

Even if you aren’t a huge hockey fan, there’s something bigger that comes with the purchase of your ticket. ALL ticket sales, puck sales, and Washington Capitals merchandise sales will go directly to the foundation to put more money into continental heart defect research.

Get ready everyone!! The 2026 Arundel Cup between the Anne Arundel County Fire Department Pickheads and the AAPD Hockey Team is just ONE month away. All proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to one of our own firefighter’s charities, The Krueger Hat Trick Foundation, ran by Tommy Krueger and his family.
