Lieutenant Chris Higgins died in the line of duty on January 11, 2025, while on scene at a house fire in Laurel, Maryland. Chris was a 23-year veteran of Montgomery County Fire & Rescue, receiving numerous lifesaving awards throughout his career for acts of bravery and commitment to his job. At age 16, before starting his career, he began volunteering at Earleigh Heights VFC in Anne Arundel County as a live in. As a life member of 30 years, he received numerous awards, including Firefighter of the Year, served on the board of directors, and headed various committees. It is where he met and fell in love with his wife, Lisa.
At age five, he learned to play ice hockey. He continued his love of hockey, playing for 41 years on various teams including the Montgomery Police/Fire hockey team and Montgomery’s current fire hockey team, the Hooligans.
Come skate with us, watch some hockey and support the Montgomery County Career Firefighters Charitable Foundation and the Anne Arundel County Firefighters Charitable Foundation in honor of Lieutenant Chris Higgins.
