🌲🥾 National Trails Day Success at Hidden Valley! 🥾🌲

What a fantastic day on the trail!

Today, the Alleghany Highlands Trails Alliance joined the Forest Service and Southern Appalachian Wilderness Stewards (SAWS) for a National Trails Day work event at Hidden Valley—and the turnout was incredible. Nearly a dozen volunteers came out to lend a hand, making this one of our strongest volunteer showings of the year.

Together, we spent the day clearing brush, improving trail corridors, and helping prepare the area for future trail work. The difference a group like this can make in just a few hours is remarkable.

A huge THANK YOU goes out to every volunteer who gave up part of their Saturday to support our public lands. Whether you’re a longtime trail worker or joined us for the first time today, your efforts matter. Every branch cleared, every tool swung, and every step taken helps make these trails safer, more accessible, and more enjoyable for everyone who uses them.

We’re also grateful to our partners at the Forest Service and SAWS for organizing the event and helping build the relationships that will strengthen trail stewardship across our region for years to come.

Days like today are a reminder that trails don’t maintain themselves. They exist because people care enough to show up.

To everyone who came out: thank you. You made a real difference today, and we’re proud to have you as part of this trail community.

🌄🌲 Here’s to many more miles of trail—and many more days like this one.

A special thank-you goes to Happie Hippie Camp Store in downtown Clifton Forge for selecting AHTA as their June round-up charity partner.

Their “Change Up” program directly benefits AHTA this month by supporting the continued care, upkeep, and accessibility of our trails. Community partnerships like this play a real role in keeping our trail systems open, usable, and thriving for everyone who depends on them.

If you’re in the area, consider stopping by and supporting Happie Hippie Camp Store—you’ll be supporting a local business that’s actively investing back into the community and helping strengthen the trails we all enjoy.

🌲🥾 National Trails Day is This Saturday! 🥾🌲

Just a reminder that this Saturday is our National Trails Day work event at Hidden Valley, and we’d love to see a strong turnout!

📍 Hidden Valley Recreation Area
🕘 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

We’ll be partnering with the Forest Service and Southern Appalachian Wilderness Stewards (SAWS) to help improve and maintain trails in one of the region’s most beautiful outdoor spaces.

This isn’t just another workday. It’s a chance to support our public lands, strengthen partnerships that benefit trails across the Alleghany Highlands, and be part of a larger effort happening nationwide to celebrate and care for the trails we all enjoy.

Whether you’re a longtime volunteer or have never attended a trail workday before, you’re welcome to join us. No special experience is required—just bring water, sturdy shoes, and a willingness to help.

If you’ve ever hiked a trail and appreciated a cleared path, a removed blowdown, or a well-maintained corridor, this is your opportunity to help make that experience possible for someone else.

✅ Please register and complete the volunteer waiver at: www.wildernessstewards.org/volunteer

Let’s show up strong for Hidden Valley, the Forest Service, and our trail community.

See you on the trail! 🌄🌲

Another great day on the McGraw Loop Trail!

Our volunteers spent the day out on the trail tackling routine maintenance and helping keep this beautiful section of the Alleghany Highlands trail system safe, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone. From clearing vegetation to improving the trail corridor, every bit of work helps preserve these outdoor spaces for hikers, runners, families, and visitors alike.

Days like this are a reminder that our trails don’t maintain themselves—they depend on dedicated volunteers who are willing to roll up their sleeves and give back to the community. We’re grateful for everyone who came out and contributed their time and effort.

If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, we’d love to have you join us at a future workday. Whether you’re an experienced trail worker or brand new to volunteering, there’s always a way to help.

Thank you to everyone who helped make yesterday a success. See you on the trail!
