“She was 18. Her people, who loved her whole life, took her, a vaccination booklet, a leash, a collar and her belongings and took her to the Baldwin Park shelter. They said they were tired of fighting with an older dog, signed papers and left, without even looking at her.
When she was picked up by a volunteer at the shelter, she leaned on him probably wishing it was all just an ugly dream.
The moment was immortalized by photographer John Hwang, who was in the shelter at the time.
Unfortunately, dogs love sincerely, with all their heart, with all their soul and are unable to understand that human 'love forever' most often has an expiration date.. - to annual, to moving, to illness, to old age...
Dogs definitely deserve better people!

Sport Psychology/PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT: The Unexpected Champion . Optimized and Colby Hassfurther, trained by Connie Stevens. Colby did weekly mental prep sessions with me practicing for Harrisburg from July to show. In college, Colby was unable to ride, until one practice session week before Show. Guided visualizations helped Colby feel like she was riding Optimized. Result: Champion in the younger A/O Hunters and same practice/no ride, got into The National Horse Show late the night before...and won 🏆 a class and high ribbons in the other classes.

SPORT PSYCHOLOGY/PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT CAN HELP YOU PULL OF PERSONAL BEST PERFORMANCES IN END OF YEAR FINALS, INDOOR SHOWS, IN ANY DIVISION. I could, and probably should, write a book on the riders I've helped ride personal bests, enjoy, unexpectedly or expectedly win, while others top competitors choke. My experience includes helping riders at these "so called" big, important shows get through some "interesting" situations and manage to ride out of their minds. I have figured out the mental and show self management to succeed at these shows. Never say you don't have enough time for some sessions. These sessions can help you more than you may think. SPORT PSYCHOLOGY/PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT. "I don't think I would've been able to do it without your advice." "ARE YOU A MAGICIAN?" I get these comments all the time. It is not me...the athlete makes the changes I teach, when they do the credit for their improved, some drastically, goes to the athlete. I figure out their issues and how to teach athlete to change. Was lucky to have world renowned Dr. Bob Rotella as my Ph.D. advisor, post grad training as psych counselor, 60 years riding experience with excellent trainers - starting at Madeira at 5 yrs old then many years with Kathy Newman, college tennis team, NCAA Head Women's Tennis Coach 6 years, and continuing study/experience in hypnosis and holistic therapy. I teach/counsel/do guided visualizations....the ATHLETE who uses what they have learned in lessons/practice or completion gets the credit. I always tell them "You did the work!" If I don't have the solution, I ask for 24 hours and I figure it out. This doesn't happen very often.
