I'm a great advocate for safety. Wearing a seatbelt and sitting correctly in the aircraft is all about being prepared for the possibility of something happening. A seatbelt is designed to secure 1 person. Never double buckle two people on 1 seatbelt or skip buckling up because you can't find it. This simply endangers everyone else on board.

Helmets should be worn or at least secured for takeoff. History has taught us lessons that seat belts save lives. Plane crashes are violent affairs - coming from someone that has been in one.

I am always careful about who gets to jump with me and that they are briefed on possible scenarios. Just because it doesn't happen often doesn't mean it cant happen to you. Drogue entanglement with a camera person. Do you know what the correct procedure is for both jumpers?

I find it frustrating that people don't jump with a hook knife on them. If you lose the one on your rig - replace it.

This small piece of equipment could end up saving your life. No one ever thinks these scenarios can happen to them - and yet it eventually may happen.

Even UPT has issued a tandem advisory that Instructors should have access to a knife after a recent fatality investigation.

With the season winding down now is a great time to look at your rig. Is it looking a bit dirty/grubby - during the winter break is a great time to get your rig washed. Is your AAD going to require maintenance, now is a good time to get that taken care of. Lines looking pretty fuzzy - is it time to get your canopy relined.

For all the jumpers that sit decide to sideways in the caravan rather than facing backward/forwards. Look at the damage you do to the interior of the plane and think what damage you could do to your container on that exposed edge. If you see others sitting that way, say something,

I'm seeing lots of rigs with missing hook knives. Seriously consider replacing missing equipment with a decent knife. Always good to have one when you need it rather than simply wishing you had one.

Next week is PIA symposium in Dallas. The parachute industry bi-annual event. It's a great opportunity to watch presentations, find out what's new and speak directly with manufacturers. Happy New Year - 2019. Skydive Snohomish will be open this weekend (Its been two long months).

Time to get your rigs repacked and get ready to jump again. Take care of any servicing needs (AAD maintenance, relines, rig washes etc.) and be ready to jump when the weather is nice.

Who's going to be the 1st to jump at Snohomish this year. I know last year I was.

Vigil has just issued a SB for some Vigil 2 https://www.vigil.aero/wp-content/uploads/PSB-02-2018.pdf For all the customer I have worked on I've informed those that have units which are affected. If you jump elsewhere and have a Vigil 2 unit then please check to see if this applies to you. If it does then this can be done at the next repack or before 31st December.

If it is done outside of a normal repack in the US. The only person who can open and reseal the reserve is the last rigger who packed it.
