Our Story
Grandmaster Aiping Cheng's distinguished martial arts heritage is unparalleled in the world. Grandmaster Cheng was a member of the elite Chinese National Wushu Team six times, including the historic 1974 team that performed for President Nixon when U.S. and the People's Republic of China first opened relations. She was then promoted to Head Coach of the Zhejiang Wushu Team. In addition to her elite wushu training, Grandmaster Cheng also studied extensively under traditional masters, including Yang style Tai Chi under Master Fu Zhongwen; Sun style Tai Chi, Bagua, and Xingy iunder Master Sun Jianyun, Master LiYulin, and Master Li Tianji; and Chen style Tai Chi under Master Chen Xiaowang and Master Chen Zhenglei. Grandmaster Cheng was a three time All-China National Tai Chi Chuan Champion. She was also part of the 1986 committee of sixteen Tai Chi masters that standardized competition standards and rules for Tai Chi. Grandmaster Cheng moved to Connecticut in 1996 and began teaching Tai Chi and Wushu to American students. In 2008, Grandmaster Cheng focused her teaching to Tai Chi and Qigong to promote health and wellness. In 2017 Grandmaster Cheng move to Austin, TX to establish Aiping Tai Chi Center - Austin and the Connecticut center was passed down to her disciples Shifu Shirley Chock and Shifu Jonas Karosas to continue her legacy.
