For those not aware of our weather patterns, we are currently in an early season drought. While we have made significant improvements to the irrigation system, it essentially is meant to be a supplement to rainfall. Our maintenance team is doing everything we can to maintain the condition of the course during this period of stress. Please be mindful where you take your carts during this period to avoid any damage to drought stressed turf. We all have the same goal, lets make Wild Quail the best it can possibly be… if we all do our part there’s little reason to believe we won’t get through this early stress period! Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Greens aerification starts on Monday, but we changed tines and calibrated our equipment today with a trial run on the putting green. The process starts with fresh new tines, pulling cores with the aerifier, core harvesting, and topdressing with sand. Lastly a nice drag to fill the holes and a few minutes of sprinklers to alleviate the stress from all the abrasion! The golf season is almost upon us!

It’s been a while since I’ve done an update. It’s been an up and down winter with Mother Nature. The course was frozen for about 10 straight days followed by unseasonably warm temperatures. The course stayed very wet for 2.5 weeks. We have been very busy on the course during this offseason. Our focus so far has been tree removal, brush clearing and building the 19th hole. To date we have removed about 200 various size trees and cleared about an acre of brush.
We also have been doing proper bunker maintenance that has been long overdue. This maintenance will help us reclaim the original bunker shape and size plus help our turf be healthier around them. The new 19th hole/practice facility is taking shape. We started laying sod today. We decided to go with Bermuda grass on the fairway and tee so membership can see the difference from bent grass, if we ever decide to fully convert to Bermuda.
We are very happy with where the course is at right now. This coming season is where you’ll see the most improvement since we arrived a little over two years ago.
Look for us to continue removing bent sod on 18,9 and 11 fairways to be replaced with tall fescue. We will be using the bent sod on certain tees that need to be replaced. We also have many other trees to remove throughout the property specifically on 14, 15, 17 and 18 . We will be continuing equipment maintenance and repair.
Please feel free to reach out if there’s any questions.
It’s going to be a great upcoming year!!!

Boom goes the dynamite, 😂. We are establishing a 19th hole/bottom driving range tee around the chipping green, which was originally supposed to be built years ago. We are doing this project in house in order to save the club money. The existing green and bunker(new sand will be added) will be left as is. My drawing is not architect worthy but I think y’all will get the picture. We will establish a new tee back toward #6 which will be about 1000 square feet and establish a new 24000 square foot range tee/approach.
This project will give us extra practice area to alleviate stress on our top range tees and also an extra hole if needed as we move forward with course improvements. We continue to upgrade our practice facility as well as the other areas on our property. Thank y’all for everything!!!
