Earned a split in Wheatland, Wyoming. We definitely played as if we were coming off a conference games and 6 hours in the vans. But I was happy to see some competitiveness in the second game. I thought Jacques threw really well in that first game, we were just lethargic. In the second game, I was really pleased with how the young guys competed while a couple older guys were out of the game. Cooper Gardner was fantastic, had it been a conference game we would have let him finish. Tomorrow we are going to the Rockies/Cubs game, which should be a lot of fun for the boys.

Mavs host Laurel tonight at 5pm in an Eastern A double header. Should be a perfect evening for the concession stand to make dinner and watch two good teams play ball!

I want to brag about the guys for a minute. It was nice to go 3-1 on the weekend, but this means more in the long run. I give the guys a hard time about being a pain in the tail (and they certainly can be at times), but the reality is I constantly get told things like this from waitresses, hotel employees and others. We as coaches are far from perfect, but this is something we take seriously. None of these guys are going to the major leagues, but all of them will be husbands, fathers, bosses and employees soon enough. This is a kudos to the kids and the parents for raising them well.

Tuesday- Mavs vs Laurel, Connors Stadium, 5 pm
Wednesday- Mavs at Wheatland, Wyo
Thursday- Mavs at Rockies/Cubs in Denver; Colts at Cody Tournament
Friday- Mavs at Douglas, Wyo; Colts at Cody Tournament
Saturday- Colts at Cody Tournament
Sunday- Colts at Cody Tournament

Ended the Watford City tournament with a 16-8 win over Watford City in the 3rd place game. I was happy with the way we battled back and competed at the plate. We get a needed day off then at home finally on Tuesday for a conference double header against Laurel starting at 5.

Lost to Burlington on a very hot, windy day. I was really encouraged by how well Jacques Hollowell pitched. He hasn't thrown much in the last month so we kept him on a shorter pitch count, but he was fantastic on his first pitch strikes. A couple mistakes that are easily fixed and we're right in that game. We will play tomorrow afternoon at around 3 pm in the 3rd place game, not sure on our opponent yet.

Picked up a good 17-7 win over Casper earlier today to go to 2-0 in the Watford City tournament. It was good to see the offense get going a bit with 16 total hits. Cody Lang, Cooper Gardner and Rylin Gentry each went 3-4, Bryson Hurley and Jacques Hollowell were 2-3. We will conclude pool play tomorrow at 4 pm (central) against a good Burlington, ND team.
