Clear Stream Custom Water Craft

Clear Stream Custom Water Craft High performance kayaks, surf skis and canoes. Individually crafted in the USA. They are very light weight averaging 28 to 32 pounds for an 18' long sea kayak.

We're a small shop, literally Mom and Pop, dedicated to building custom kayaks and canoes. They are built one at a time utilizing a wooden core, usually northern white cedar, and skinned with fiberglass.

Trial batch of 3D resin printed deck fittings for the new kayak project. The tubes on the small one are 1-1/2” (49 mm) on center. The larger ones are spaced 4-1/2” (114mm).
If you’re wondering: this resin is stronger than PLA filament.

Björn Thomasson recently came out with a pair of really neat strip designs.

“The first, named Splash, is a wider and shorter version of Spray, intended to be an easily handled multi-purpose kayak on the surfski concept. [ ] Splash is 507x55 cm and has a load capacity of approx 130 kg.”

“The other, Jack 14 SOT, is not a new kayak, just a sit-on-top version of the standard Jack 14. [ ] It can be built with a small surfski cockpit, minimizing the volume for safety in waves, or with a big open cockpit with room for fishing equipment. [ ] Dimensions are the same as the original Jack 14– 420x63 cm and a load capacity of 140 kg.”

I did a final fill coat of epoxy on the deck a few days ago. I was about to flip it over to sand and coat the hull when The Cat decided to “help.”

A saw a nice inlay on a kayak on a kayak building FB group and thought back to the hardwood Njord I built for a customer in Barcelona, Spain back in 2008. It had an epic hippocampus/nereid wood and shell inlay on the fore-deck. It's still one of my favorite projects. I hope he's still using it...
