Everyone take the time to congratulate Aj Hendrickes Jim Fosselman and Bruce for being the next coaches to lead JHS Girls basketball to the top. What a wealth of knowledge they bring to the table! What a great group of kids returning as well and also coming up from junior high. Hope some kids who didn’t come out this year, decide to do so next year. All the best ! I will be shutting down this page next week, but wanted to wish everyone luck.

Thank You Juniata County for being so kind to me as a coach in many capacities for 8 years. My last home game took place tonight as we lost to a very good Westmont Hilltop team. Our girls battled hard and what I will always remember is their die hard commitment to playing the game. No matter what I threw at them they were always up for the challenge. 16-7 is a great season. 13-3 in the league, second place and with a victory over the 1 team. The future of Juniata is bright, I am glad to leave things in great shape for the future. As stated in previous posts, it’s always nice to have the people at the lower levels helping. Kyle Martin, Bill Gilson, Meghan Ritzman Geedey, Ed Reinhold, Tawny Mummah, AJ Hendricks anyone that gave up their free time to help. These are the people that make a program successful. To my club- Tawny, Michelle, Matt - thanks for all the help managing events, meals, etc. I will miss that feeling before tipoff and hearing the kids and about their lives, but I will enjoy being around my family as they grow into athletes and scholars. Thank you Juniata for having me and I hope for nothing but the best for you!

This will be my final season as the Juniata girls varsity coach. In these years I have learned so much about teenage girls. They would say I have a lot to learn. This team is going to have a great success for years to come. I will miss everyone from elementary through high school. A successful basketball program is only as good as its people. I’d like to thank Al Ream, Matt Trotman, Rylee Duck, Erin Derr, AJ Hendricks, Ed Reinhold, Kyle Martin, Bill Gilson, Meghan Geedey, Kevin Kodish and all the parents For giving their time to make the program successful. Also the booster club Tawny Mummah and Michelle Lowery. Also Mexico Market for their help with away game meals. The kids are super hard workers and our season is not over yet as we will host Westmont hilltop sometime next week. In the three years I’ve been there our overall record is 33 - 31, TVL 27-20, this year we finished second in the league 13-3 (16-6 overall) and fourth seed for districts. Whoever takes over next year will have very talented teams. Our high school team should compete for the league title, and our junior high team looks strong for next year and the kids coming up through will only help. My reason for not returning next season is that I have three children that are all competing in sports and my job at this point is to get them prepared for their future in sports. But not just sports having that quality time with your kids and family can never be regained. I will miss the excitement of coaching but I will certainly love taking my kids to the games and maybe even calling a game on the radio from time to time. Thank you all for having me at Juniata. Go Indians!

What a suspenseful, nerve racking game ! Our girls stepped up when it counted. East Juniata’s defense was relentless; they were very prepared for the game. Our players all stepped up in a big way. After scoring 13 points in 3 quarters, we went off in the 4th for 21 points. Shalelyn Armstrong and Anna Mae Obrien came off the bench for some much needed help as a smaller line up was needed at times as well. Some foul trouble early on kept Ava out but we didn’t let up at all. Our defense was relentless and we stepped up when we needed to. Scoring: Mummah 1, Lowrey 11, Bennett 13, Walton 3, Shearer 6. Great job Lady Indians. Way to come together as a team and get it done. Next game Tuesday at Newport.
