the guys haven’t noticed yet, the tuna are biting hard on the Daiwa SK and Zakana jigs lately. These have been producing fish consistently on several recent trips, from school size tuna to quality grade fish offshore.

We also haven’t changed the prices on these jigs for the last few years, even with everything going up. Stock up while we still have them on the wall. Once the bite gets hotter, they disappear fast.

Fish are biting full speed offshore right now 🔥

School size Bluefin, Yellowfin, and giant bonito are all in the mix. The action has been nonstop with solid grade fish and hard pulls all day long.

For those heading out:
Circle hooks in size 1, 2, 3, and 4 have been working best. Stick with quality name brand hooks. Owner and Gamakatsu are hands down some of the best choices when it matters most. A good hook can be the difference between landing fish and telling stories.

Fresh bait, good knots, sharp hooks, and be ready… these fish are not playing around.

Next week’s forecast: High tide with a chance of fish running on the beach.

On spring evenings of the full and new moons, thousands of silvery fish called grunion come ashore to breed in the wet beach sand.

Where: South of Point Conception in Santa Barbara County

When:
• Wednesday, 3/18, expected run 10 p.m. to midnight
• Thursday, 3/19, expected run 10:25 p.m. to 12:25 a.m.
• Friday, 3/20, expected run 10:55 p.m. to 12:55 a.m.
• Saturday, 3/21, expected run 11:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.

Note: These dates and times are likely two-hour spawning windows for next week. Typically, the second hour has more fish than the first hour so be patient.

During the open season, July 1- March 31, a grunion run can provide a rare and tasty treat for those who follow the rules and regulations. If you would like to try your hand at collecting grunion, please observe the following regulations:

• A valid fishing license is required for those 16 and older. An ocean enhancement validation is required to fish in ocean waters south of Point Arguello in Santa Barbara County.
• The bag and possession limit is 30 fish per person.
• Grunion may only be taken by hand. No nets or other equipment may be used.
• No holes may be dug in the beach to entrap them.
