These are questions I get as a coach about players being recruited. Remember, they already know you can play. What’s important to them is your character and leadership qualities.
How would you answer these questions about yourself?
1. Describe his tools as an athlete. How is his size, speed, and overall athleticism. What are his greatest strengths Weaknesses? Could he play in the Pac 12, Big West, West Coast Conference, etc.
2. We try to define toughness as a positive response to a negative situation. How is his toughness and ability to handle pressure and stressful situations? How does he handle competition when the game is getting away from him? Please give an example.
3. Describe his character and leadership abilities. Is he a leader and good teammate in your program either on or off the field? Please give an example or situation in which he has demonstrated or not demonstrated leadership.
4. Describe his anticipated / projected role with your team in the spring. Will his playing times have an impact on the team's overall success? Will it change much from last season?
5. Has he been in a situation with your team (or in his baseball career) where he was one of, if not the best player, on the team? Has he ever been in a situation where he has had to "carry the team" based upon his play?
6. Please describe his family situation. What if any interaction do his parents or other family members take with his baseball career? What contact have you had with them?
7. Does he have tremendous upside, or do you think he has peaked as a player?
8. Discuss his day-to-day work ethic as a player. Is he coachable and willing/able to make adjustments? How passionate is he about the game and his desire to play college baseball?
9. Is there anything else you think is important to know about him?
