We had a great but windy day for the first pull of the season. Thanks to all those folks that partisipated and the workers that made The George Eby Memoral pull possible. We had arould 800 additional dollars for payback donated to the pull. We also had some door prizes. We took up a collection for Georges charity of choice, 'Make a Wish' of $330 which will be doubled by a company. Here are the results from GCGTP in Middletown, PA. There were 225 hooks. The next pull is Sept. 26, 2026 at 11:00.

The first pull for the season of GCGTP is May 30 at 11:00. The pull will be a menorial in honor of George Ebby with a few items taking place at the drivers meeting.. If you would like to add money or door prizes see the registry booth at the pull. The address is 468 Edinburgh Road, Middletown, PA.
Two tracks, two sleds and two rounds for all 4k and under adult classes at #1,050. Youth classes are one round at #900.
12 and 16hp youth 3,600 RPM, 10" hitch.
Factory stock 16 hp at 3,600 RPM 10 inch hitch
14 and 16 hp at 4k 10 inch hitch
20 and 25 hp at 4k 13 inch hitch

To anyone that has an interest. This applies mostly to Onan engines in the 20 and 25 hp classes.
NOTE: I nolonger have an Onan powered tractor, but engines that I have worked on are still out there.

This is Paul Maulfair's opinion only, if you have issues with this, I am the author and responsible person, please contact me.. 717 439 5403

1. CAM SPECS:
Most club rules say 0.275” cam lift at the lifter.
This means that v-twins may have a lifter lift of .275 and a valve lift of 0.413” [0.275” x 1.5 Kohler rocker ratio = 0.413”].
This means a flathead can only have 0.265 cam lift at the valve.
The service manual spec for a stock 25 hp Onan NHC cam is 0.300” lift.
My experience is that they are +/- 0.290” @ 0.010 lash.

Proposal for rule change: Any camshaft allowed with maximum lift at valve of .325" at .010" lash for flatheads and max lift of 0 .275" [hydraulic lifters can be zero lash] at the lifter or 0.413” at the valve for OHV engines.

2. CUBIC INCH SPECS:
Most club rules say max. 0.030 overbore with a max of 60 cubic inches displacement.

This means you cannot bore a 25 Onan 0.030” over or it will be over for cubic inches. The stock Onan spec of 3” stroke and 3.560” bore. Using the NQS -Formula for cubic inches is Measured bore x measured bore x measured stroke x .785 = in.³. [3.56” x 3.56” = 12.6736 x 3.00” = 38.0208 x .785 = 29.846328 x 2 = 59.692656] equals 59.70 cu."A 0.030 overbore equals 60.70 cu."

Proposal for rule change: Stock stroke and .030” maximum overbore for Flat Heads & 1mm overbore for OHV engines. Maximum of 47 cubic inches 25 hp OHV or Maximum 62 Cubic Inch for 25 hp flat heads.

It is a new year, I am praying that it will a blessed one for you.
As far as Great Competition Garden Tractor Pulling is concerned there a few things to look forward to this year. I was able to find insurance that is way less expensive than the last 2 years so payouts should be a little better. On the first pull on May 30 we will dedicate the pull to the memory of Geroge Eby. If you would like to contribute to extra payback or door prizes let me know. Also since George was always concerned about people being legal and safe [I remember this starting back in the E-town Fair days 30 years ago] we will be doing teching of tractors, some safety and some engines.

Obituary for George E. Eby IV
George E. Eby, 64, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2025. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late George E. III and Dorothy (Hamaker) Eby. George was the husband of Serena (Grimm) Eby with whom he celebrated 36 years of marriage this past November 11th.
George was a graduate of Elizabethtown Area High School class of 1980. He was a service technician at Messick Farm Equipment. George was a member of Cross Roads Church in Mount Joy serving on the Welcome Team. He also served on the Elizabethtown Fair Board. George was always willing to help a stranger or a friend. He enjoyed hunting and tractor pulls.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Serena, are two children, Kathy Plott, wife of John of East Earl and George Eby V, husband of Alexa of Elizabethtown; and a sister, Deborah Ebersole, companion of Jeff Sabo of Manheim.
A memorial service honoring George’s life will be held at Cross Roads Church, 800 Donegal Springs Rd, Mount Joy, PA 17552 on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 11 AM. Family and friends will be received at the church before the service from 9 AM to 11 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Make A Wish Foundation at https://secure2.wish.org .

George Eby one of our long time garden tractor pullers and a fixture in our sport has died. Please pray for his family and friends as they deal with the loss. He will be missed in many ways. All who knew him, know that he was a genuine nice guy that he contribued greatly to GTP from way back in the E-town fair days.
