I see all kinds of people who talk so much s**t about people selling horses at auctions.

And first and foremost - all auctions are not created equally. There are many higher end sales across the country and then there’s plenty of low end dump auctions.

Second and most importantly - let me give you a glimpse into what sellers are dealing with everyday.
I don’t care if I’m adopting out one of our few rescue owned horses, networking out the direct ship horses that ARE NOT OWNED BY US or dealing with the consignment/sales horses - let me break it down for you why more and more people are selling VERY GOOD horses at auctions -

First we have “Just Looking Lisa ” —

Messages me at 1am.
“Is he still available?” I say yes
Never heard from again.

Next “Video Victoria” —

“Can you send me more videos? “ (you know because the five I have aren’t enough)
Sent. Never heard from again

Then “PPE Polly” —

Wants X-rays, bloodwork, vet records, a saddle trial, a return policy, and a personality test.
Budget: $1,800

Then “Can’t read Carl” —

I need more info. (Legit ALL info you could ever need is IN THE POST). I pm them - what questions do you have. No response.

Next is “Trailerless Tyler” —

Can’t haul. Can’t borrow a trailer. Can’t rent one. And has been sent our long list of recommended haulers but that’s out of his budget.
But is very serious about buying and wants to know if we can haul 400 miles for free.

Then “Payment Plan Paul” —

Wants to pay monthly.
Horse lives with me until paid in full.
Also wants updates, training rides, and free board.
(And the horses fee is $1200)

Let’s not forget “Facebook Commenter Calvin” —

Has never met the horse.
Has very strong opinions.
May get a horse again one day. But will let us know. Maybe.

Also “Cant Tell Time Connie” —

Shows up 2 hours late because she stopped at a couple tack shops. Also would like my opinion on said tack shops. Cant understand why im agitated.

And lets especially not forget - “Pony Ride Patty” —

Comes and tries three horses, can’t tack up on her own, is a professional rider and after all this says - I wish my barn was ready. I think by summer it may be.

After all of the tire kickers, ghosters, emotional support inquiries, and adults wanting pony rides - sellers get really tired of dealing with nonstop bs.

They take the horse to a sale. And here come the keyboard warriors that i see bashing sellers.
Suddenly all the time wasters become a moral philosopher, a horse welfare expert and are personally offended.

“HOW COULD THEY DO THAT?”

Well I’ll tell you how - because dealing with the public is a full-time unpaid job with no benefits.

Selling from home in today’s world isn’t hard — it’s a psychological marathon.

So no, the sale wasn’t the lazy option.
It was the sane option.

Read that again.

If you’ve never tried to sell, adopt out, network out, rehome a horse in the age of the internet, kindly sit down and zip it.

BUYERS/time wasters are the reason sellers take their horses to auctions.
Be kind and considerate of sellers time.

Somewhere along the way, people decided that if you work with horses, it should only be a labor of love—not for a living. Profit forbidden. Burnout applauded.

As soon as someone breeds, trains, rehomes, shoes, or provides some other type of professional service and charges for it, the craziness begins. Yet no one questions profit in any other sport or business for that matter.

Horses are not some unique exception to this.

This is a high-cost, high-risk, high-skill industry. Feed, vet care, facilities, insurance, education, and equipment don’t run on good intentions. S**t aint free. Not only that, s**ts expensive.

Breeders don’t owe cheap horses.
Trainers don’t owe unlimited time.
Professionals don’t owe discounts “for the horse.”
No one owes you anything.
And i dont care if you have a rescue or not - dont expect free s**t.

If you want ethical breeding, correct training, and responsible horsemanship, the people doing the work have to stay in business.

Passion doesn’t pay vet bills.
Exposure isn’t currency.

The equine world isn’t a charity.
It’s an industry—and it’s allowed to function like one. Something about adding a horse to any situation and people lose their damn minds.

Horse people have more money than anyone else I know - and they are the first ones to argue with you over 5 effing dollars. 🥴

CL Catch The Dash “Cody”

2020 AQHA gelding out of a RX Dream Catcher mare by the cutting horse Medicina Bueno on the bottom side. He’s by Dash Ta Fame son Famous Eye M and his entire top side are Quarter Horse racehorse winners including First Down Dash. He’s supposed to be a roping (heel) horse. We do not do any roping so I can’t say for sure about that but he is super broke and can go to a show tomorrow and do well in ranch horse or western pleasure classes. My daughter has run him on the barrel pattern and while hes got plenty of speed and does know the pattern, he’s definitely a push style ride and not in a hurry at this point. He could go in any direction though. He’s 15 hands. He sells 100% sound and needs no maintenance. No bad behavior at all under saddle. He’s a little looky/watchy on the ground but he’s all business when you get in the saddle. He’ll work all day and never complain. He’s very easy to ride at all gaits. He side passes, leg yields and will do lead changes. The sky is the limit for this guy and hes ready for you to take him home and excel in whatever you want him to do. V Lazy Y quarter horses brand on his left hip.

I’m sure this will be the last nail in my coffin but i dont really care. Everyone that knows me knows I don’t care at all what anyone thinks and I’m definitely not changing now lol.
And this doesn’t have to do with us specifically at all, just something I’ve noticed more and more and im annoyed so im posting about it.

All my life I’ve bought a lot of horses. A LOT. And I’ve had way more problems with individuals selling horses than with horse dealers. WAY more. People want to talk about horse dealers like they’re so terrible but really - everything is for sale, good or bad and you know that. When an individual is selling a horse, there is usually a reason why and it’s almost always to get rid of their problems onto someone else. Sure every once in a while they have a kid going to college or have a life change circumstance where they have to sell but that’s not nearly as often as they claim.
I have a business where I take horses on consignment/training for people, obviously we have the direct ship horses that we try to network out to give them a last chance, and we have this small non-profit rescue that has about 5 horses at a time for adoption. All together we move over 200 head a year. I’d say that’s pretty successful but I by no means have everything figured out. But what I do know I’ve learned from the best and I’ve worked in many different parts of the horse industry.
There is an absolute maiming on social media roasting people who sell horses - mainly dealers. First of all - these Facebook horse groups, 99% of them are infested with the most ridiculous drama loving creatures that either got way too much attention growing up or not nearly enough (I can’t decide which it is). I usually stay out of the groups but every time something pops up in my feed from one of these groups it’s the same story - so and so bought a horse and a week later its behavior changed entirely and it’s all the sellers fault for the Jekyll and Hyde behavior change. And let me say that there’s dishonesty throughout the horse industry near and far, top and bottom. Theres plenty of traders that will lie when it’s easier to tell the truth. But that is not by far the majority, not even close. Even most horse dealers won’t tell you a bold face lie to your face. I feel like what does happen a lot is there is a lingo amongst people who regularly sell horses and what’s said and what’s perceived does get intertwined.
But all these posts I see bashing sellers - most especially horse dealers is out of control. It’s like people are butt hurt that there are people out there who make money selling horses. Like no s**t, would you go to work if you weren’t getting paid?? Hell no you wouldn’t. It’s like when a horse is involved people lose their minds.
Another I see in these stupid groups is people bitching about “flippers”. If a horse dealer buys a horse at a sale and sells it the next day for double the price, people come unglued. Idk if it’s the money they’re making “easily” or what but I can tell you right now, they probably bought 10 head and they’re barely making money on 7-8 of those. Who cares if they’re making a profit. The entire horse industry needs to stay in their lane. It’s like they’re pi**ed off because they can’t do it. There’s no shame in not being able to do that, but don’t project your own failures and weaknesses onto someone else’s success. The FB horse groups are full of that.

Another sour point is auctions. (Not high end sales, the low end dump ones where everyone goes to get a deal). That’s often where dealers will dump what they can’t sell otherwise. You can get some real gems there for cheap but if you aren’t savy at buying at those places you shouldn’t have high expectations. Theres fb pages just for the purpose of s**t talking these sales and the dealers who sell there. You’re playing a game you know nothing about and when you lose your ass you get pi**ed off. I just don’t get the normalizing of putting your problems out there on social media. It’s looks and sounds like a deranged psychopath literally every time.
I’ve gotten to where if i see someone ranting like a fool in these horse groups, i block them from my page so i dont ever have to deal with their craziness - good or bad. 🤣

And do you think those of us that buy horses often don’t ever get burned? Sure we do. (Ive bought horses that I’ve had to euthanize after a few days) But you know what we don’t do - we don’t go cry on social media. You shut up and keep pedaling.

Horse dealers are actually a necessary evil (and that’s just a saying, I don’t think most are evil at all). They’re actually keeping affordable horses in circulation. And i personally have gotten some of my best horses from dealers.

Moral of the story - you only truly lose if you quit.
If you don’t have a good experience, shake it off, get back up and get back out there.

And if you’ve ever had to sell a horse, rehome a horse, adopt out a horse, and dealt with craziness of buyers - I see you and I’m proud of you.

18 yo Dutch cross pony mare. 13.3 hands. Rides and drives. Very easy to handle and friendly. No bad behavior and gets along with the other horses and ponies. She has primarily been a driving pony but does take a rider. She is easy for anyone to handle and work with on the ground. She is sound.

We are selling 120 tickets. Tickets are 10 dollars each and if you’ve bought 3 or more tickets in either of the last two pony raffles (separately or combined) and you buy at least one ticket, you’ll get one for free.
