Your 2026 Class MM State Championship Third Place Finishers!
Mercy Outdoor Track & Field!
For the fourth straight year, the Tigers placed inside the top three at their class championship, finishing behind Hillhouse and Woodstock Academy at Willow Brook Park in New Britain.
After bringing home the runner-up plaque the last three years, Mercy took third at state championship on Sunday.
Anchored by three state titles, two silver medals, and two bronze medals, Mercy scored 77 points to end the day just 14 points behind Hillhouse and two behind Woodstock Academy.
In her final class championship, Sarah Roberts ’26 added to her already impressive legacy by winning the 800 meters and helping Mercy take big points in the 4x800-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay.
Beatrice Perrault ‘26, Calista Nephew ‘26, Alyson Low ‘28 and Roberts started the day off by giving Mercy its fourth straight state title in the 4x800; and in the final event of the meet, with the championship on the line, Ava Chiapetta ‘28, Veronika Meriano ‘26, Heather Meisinger ‘28, and Roberts were part of a nail-bitting finish, where the Tigers nearly pulled off a comeback win.
In the high jump, Madelyn Scarfo ‘27, snagged her first ever state title with a thrilling high jump victory. After missing her first jump at five feet (she was the only athlete to come in at that height), she nailed her next two jumps for the win at 5-2, and nearly matched the school record with a near miss at 5-4.
The Tigers also got big production out of a pair of sophomores. Cora Wasiolek ‘26 was third in the 1600 and second in the 3200, and Ruby Kuselias ‘28 was third in the 3200. Wasiolek and Kuselias ran side by side the whole race and joined by Maddy D’Andrea ‘27 who was eighth.
The Mercy 4x100 relay team of Ashlynn Desmond ‘27, Molly Mones ‘28, Kenzie Kielb ‘28 and Hannah Naccarato ‘29 also ran the second fastest time in school history to score and Kathleen Gaboury ‘27 took fourth in shot put.
Mercy will now look to put together one of its best finishes at the State Open Championship on Saturday where it wil bring one of its biggest groups in years.
Let’s go, Tigers!
