As head tumbling coach of The Cheer Hive, the tumble mat is where I lock in with each team. Every rep has a purpose.
I’m watching for pointed toes, straight legs, body control, timing, and technique. All the details that matter when it’s time to perform.
We put in a lot of work in the gym on tumbling. Drills, breaking skills down, repetition after repetition. So when those tumbling passes hit in the routine, the athletes aren’t overthinking… it’s muscle memory.
Muscle memory is everything in cheer! Especially when it comes to tumbling.
In tumbling, skills happen fast. There’s no time to stop and think about where your arms go, if your legs are straight, or when to set. Muscle memory allows the body to move correctly without conscious thought, which is what keeps athletes safe and consistent.
