Parks and Recreation Goals 2022

With 2021 coming to an end, we were fortunate enough to have one of the biggest years for Parks and Recreation in Middlesboro that the city has ever seen.

Southside Park received a much overdue complete transformation through grants and local community member funding. The renovation took nearly 3 years of coordination and acquisition of grants and donation to see this come to fruition, if you haven’t seen this park I can assure you it will be worth your time for a visit!

Old Lincoln High School Park received Middlesboro’s first ever Splashpad thanks to a complete donation and assembly from Colby Wilson and the Utilities Inc (Middlesboro’s water supplier).

Ford’s Woods Park received its first basketball goal in over 10 years along with landscape cleanup around the bathrooms. One of our shelters was sponsored and spruced up by Kiwanis of Middlesboro.

West End Park received new basketball goals as well as a good start to a cleanup of a neglected tennis court.

With all this being done in 2021 it makes for a tough act to follow but we have another big year planned for 2022 And they are:

- Opening of our City Pool this Summer
- Southside Park Receiving a Parking Lot
- Complete Makeover of Lincoln School Park
- Potential Funding of Softball Lights for Lincoln Memorial Field
- Take Bids for Playground Equipment at Buddy Massengil Park in East End
- Continued Renovations for West End Park

This is a very ambitious list but we are excited to see what’s in store for our city!

This is a BIG week for Middlesboro Parks and Recreations!

We will be signing the check for our LWCF Grant which will be bringing in almost $240,000 in renovations of playground equipment for Old Lincoln High School Park! This has been much anticipated and long overdue as we continue to play catch-up on the rest of our parks as well!

Thank you to Bell County Tourism for writing this grant nearly 3 years ago, it’s need a long process but it will be more than worth it!
