Swim inventions, circa 1720 via Ben Franklin?? Yep!! From Walter Issacson's book, Benjamin Franklin, c 2003:

"Franklin's childhood days playing along the Charles River also included a lifelong love for swimming. Once he had learned and taught his playmates, he tinkered with ways to make himself go faster. The size of peoples's hands and feet, he realized, limited how much water they could push and thus their propelling power. So he made two oval palettes, with holes for his thumbs, and (as he explained in a letter to a friend) "I also fitted to the soles of my feet a kind of sandals" With these paddles and flippers, he could speed through the water."

Lightning Rods, Kites, Electricity?... Fascinating man! That he came up with this idea of swim paddles so early on? Just Great!

Should have posted this here too, yesterday; An emailed note to prior participants. The meme of 'this didn't age well' is likely appropriate here ;-) Still, take the time to attend to yourself and your athletic pursuits, it's satisfying and you deserve it! :
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Take tomorrow off if able, get out for a ride, a run, or a swim! . Will be just the thing to get you psyched for Saturday June 20th -- Triathlon at Quassy - www.PatGriskusTri.com

When you're done and feeling motivated? Registration link is here:

Go for it!! :) Plenty of other days you can work, yet tomorrow may serve you well, re enduring some warmer weather - looking like mid 80's. Just an idea, don't want to get anyone in trouble ;-)

Kindly, Tom

Ironman 1982, Julie Moss crawl, close to the finish line - Kathleen Mcartney pass for the win. At a USAT National Conference, caught Julie Moss as a speaker. She's outstanding, very natural and engaging. Would love to have her at the Pat Griskus Triathlon! :)

Julie Moss entered the 1982 Ironman as a research experiment. She hadn't trained beforehand.With about 2 miles left in the race, she becomes completely dehyd...
