Forms: The traditional Korean Taeguek forms have been updated to an international standard which is practiced at the World Poomsae Championships, which is the most prestigious level of forms competition period. While many Taekwondo schools continue to teach their own older, and unique versions of the forms, we are modernizing to be up to the international standards by partnering with members of th
e US National Poomsae Team. Sparring: The sport aspect of Taekwondo is Olympic sparring, but it offers so many other benefits in addition to competition, such as fitness, self defense, and self examination. We practice with the same drills and exercises as the US Olympic team. In fact, we travel to seminars where you will get to learn directly from Olympic medalists, which is a very rare experience indeed. Character: Taekwondo looks physical, but it is truly much more mental, because a person without the right mental attitude will never excel in the art. Attitudes like humility, dedication, sportsmanship, and respect are the most important. We will continue to teach the same positive attitudes that we always have, and will strive to lead by example. Weapons: Regular forms teach many things, including attention to detail, physical control, and the benefits of practicing until you master a technique. It is much more difficult to learn fine control of a 6 foot long bo staff than just using your own hands and feet. Learning the traditional Okinawan weapons will really require you to take your practice of Taekwondo to the next level. Fitness: Taekwondo is so much more fun than joining a gym or jogging on the sidewalk every morning. It also helps to have friends in class to motivate you. Everyone agrees on the benefits of exercise, and this is the easiest and most enjoyable way to get it done.
