According to Aguirre, Ronaldo, Jorge Jesus and FPF president Pedro Proença held a private meeting after the controversy surrounding Ronaldo warming up against Norway for around 30 minutes without being brought onto the pitch.

Aguirre claims Jesus apologised privately to Ronaldo and promised to acknowledge his mistake publicly during his next press conference.

But Aguirre says Ronaldo felt that Jesus did not keep that promise, particularly after the Portugal boss publicly insisted that he was the one making the decisions and that there was no major problem between them.

That allegedly left Ronaldo feeling betrayed — and, according to Aguirre, contributed to his decision to leave the Portugal camp.
