The African Heritage Cultural Arts Center is the nucleus of arts learning, training and access for Miami-Dade County’s African-American community. The Center promotes and fosters the rich, diverse cultural perspective of people of African heritage through high-quality instruction for children and youth in dance, drama, instrumental music, vocal music, media and visual arts; the nurturing of in-hou

se performing arts companies; a residency program for emerging artists; as well as exciting performances and visual arts exhibitions for the public. The 2015-2016 performance season marks a remarkable milestone for the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center as it celebrates 40 years of community building through the arts. The African Heritage Cultural Arts Center complex includes a black box theater, a music conservatory that features a concert hall, piano lab and several practice rooms, a dance studio that is accessible to individuals with disabilities, an art gallery, several studio spaces, a scene shop and classrooms. The Center is managed by the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, with funding support from the office of the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners.

Mark your calendars for 7:00 pm, Saturday, June 13, 2026, to experience The Beautiful Cinema Cafe. This is a coming together you won't want to miss!

This event is especially significant because the grounds where we are gathering hosted the first Black Music Month event celebrated in Miami-Dade County during the 1980s, known then as the Model City Cultural Arts Center; now known as the Marshall L. Davis Sr. African Heritage Cultural Arts Center.

As an avid lover of music, the universal language, I will never forget how empowering it was to first hear that phrase. Originally decreed by President Jimmy Carter in 1979 and later renamed African-American Music Appreciation Month by President Barack Obama in 2009, this month remains a vital celebration of our cultural legacy.

We hope you can join us to create new memories as we honor this history with a screening of FUNKJAZZ KAFE: Diary of a Decade - The Story of a Phenomenon, directed by Jason Orr. The film features legendary artists, songwriters, and producers who have shaped the music that has moved us for decades - from George Clinton, Roy Ayers and Larry Mizell, to Outkast, Jill Scott and Erykah Badu.

Roots run deep. Truth rises deeper. 🌳🩸

The African Heritage Youth Theatre proudly presents Blood at the Root — a gripping and emotionally charged theatrical experience inspired by real events that continue to echo through our communities today.

As our nation reflects on 250 years of independence, this powerful production challenges us to examine what freedom, justice, equality, and identity truly mean for all Americans. Through the voices of young people navigating race, peer pressure, systemic injustice, and the struggle to be heard, Blood at the Root becomes both a theatrical experience and a necessary conversation about the America we’ve inherited, and the future we are still shaping.

Performed by the talented young artists of African Heritage Youth Theatre, this production is raw, timely, haunting, and unforgettable.
