Grappling Champion and Co-Founder of FFA, Master David Avellan, will be in town teaching this Friday and Monday at 6;00pm at ! David has competed in the ADCC World Championships - finished 3rd in 2009. He has defeated multiple world champions, such as Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu, Rafael Lovato Jr, Tarsis Humphreys, Amaury Bitetti, and Xande Ribeiro.

Current FFA CAP and Teen BBC members can jump into the classes for free. Current members that aren’t in CAP or BBC can jump into the classes for $25 - and non-members can jump in for $50.

Getting your back taken doesn’t mean the round is over.

One of my favorite escapes is when the opponent gets a little too high on the back control. Here’s the key:

Head goes DOWN
Hips go UP

Like a horse trying to buck someone off.

If their hands hit the mat or you feel them drifting high, that’s your moment. Grab the head (or shoulder if needed), bend them out of position, keep their shoulders flat, unhook the hooks, and work your way to top position.

The biggest mistakes:

* Bringing your head and hips up together
* Staying committed too long and getting rolled through

Timing and feel matter, but this is a great escape to test anytime someone feels high on your back.

Back control is powerful… but only if the rider stays balanced.
