This is a reminder of the upcoming Matheson Hammock Race on Saturday, June 20. So far I have heard positive responses from Jofre (H-20), Alfred (F-16), Manny (H-20), Chris and Alec (F-18), Greg and Claudia (N-6.0), John and Terry (H-20), and maybes from Francisco (H-20), and Andres (H-16). So it looks like we should have at least 6 boats and hopefully more. Who else is planning on doing this event? If you need a crew or want to crew let me know and I will try to hook you up.

1. The CABB event for Saturday, June 20th will be the Matheson Hammock Distance Race. This will be a three leg race starting at the Rickenbacker Causeway beach and first going to the #2 marker of the south channel of Matheson Hammock Park. The second leg will be to Marker #20 at the west end of Biscayne Channel. From there we will return to the finish line at the CABB beach where we started. The course is 15 nautical miles. This race usually takes 2 to 3 hours depending on the winds. The crew meeting will be at 10:30 at the CABB Beach on the Rickenbacker Causeway in Miami. Please have your boat rigged and ready to sail by that time. If you can't find a crew I may be able to help you find one. If you would like to crew let me know. If you are planning on doing this regatta, please let me know.

Biscayne Channel, Marker #20 N. 25' 39.40, W. 80' 11.15

2. It is time to submit your club dues for 2026. We collect dues to offset our annual expenses. Our primary expense is our liability insurance policy. We also have to pay an annul fee to renew our non profit corporation with the State of Florida. We have been able to maintain dues at only $50 for the entire year. Last year you got 12 monthly races and 3 designated fun day group sails. You also have access to our CABB page where you will find some stories and photo albums of past events. Many of you were able to join those sailing activities. I am asking you to support these ongoing sailing events. I know that some sailors are not able to join in the sailing activities but still wish to lend your support to the south Florida beach cat sailing community. I sincerely appreciate and encourage your ongoing support. With everyone's support we can continue to enjoy organized catamaran and trimaran small boat sailing events on our beautiful Biscayne Bay. We are fortunate to have this amazing venue right here in our backyard.

Dues can be paid in cash, check (Made out to CABB), or through PayPal via my email address, [email protected], name, or mobile # 305 251-7600. If you are mailing a check you can send it to me at 14844 SW 97th Ct, Miami, FL 33176.

Hi,

1. It is time to submit your club dues for 2026. We collect dues to offset our annual expenses. Our primary expense is our liability insurance policy. We also have to pay an annul fee to renew our non profit corporation status with the State of Florida. Minor operating expenses are also paid for with dues revenue. Miraculously we have been able to maintain dues at only $50 for the entire year despite the ever increasing cost of our insurance policy. Last year you got 12 monthly races and 3 designated fun day group sails. You also have access to our CABB page where you will find some stories and photo albums of past events. Many of you were able to join those sailing activities. I ask you to support these ongoing sailing events. I do know that some people are not able to join in the sailing activities but still wish to lend your support to the south Florida beach cat sailing community. I sincerely appreciate and encourage your ongoing support. With everyone's support we can continue to enjoy organized catamaran (and trimaran) small boat sailing events on our beautiful Biscayne Bay. We are fortunate to have this amazing venue right here in our back yard. I have already received dues from Dorian and Alfred. Thank you two for your continuing support.

Dues can be paid in cash, check (Made out to CABB), or through PayPal via my email address, [email protected], name, or mobile # 305 251-7600. If you are mailing a check you can send it to me at 14844 SW 97th Ct, Miami, FL 33176.

Another great day on Biscayne Bay for the Catamaran Association of Biscayne Bay’s Black Ledge Race! May 24, 2026

Four boats came out from CABB Beach to take on a challenging course: from the beach to the Black Ledge marker, over to Marker 20, and back to the beach finish line.

The fleet included two Hobie 20s, a Nacra 15, and a Falcon F-16. Racing crews included Manny and Branden (Hobie 20), Francisco and Andres (Hobie 20), Ale and Sara (N-15), and Alfred solo on the (Falcon, F-16).

After the 10:30 a.m. skippers meeting and our traditional 20-minute hack countdown, the fleet launched into some seriously sporty conditions. Strong winds and heavy Sargasso w**d made for an action-packed race, with crews constantly clearing daggerboards and rudders just to keep the boats moving fast.

Manny and Branden aboard their Hobie 20 were first back to the beach, finishing in 1 hour and 47 minutes. Ale and Sara on the Nacra 15 were right behind them only a few minutes later after an impressive run around the course.

Not everyone finished the race, but that’s part of the adventure. Francisco and Andres were forced to retire after a rudder pin failure which nearly cost them an entire rudder assembly. Alfred’s Falcon F-16 also turned back early after equipment setup issues created heavy weather helm that made the boat extremely difficult to handle solo in the conditions.

Despite the challenging breeze and w**d-filled bay, it was an exciting day of racing, problem solving, teamwork, and time on the water with a great group of sailors.

If you’ve ever been interested in beach cat sailing or racing on Biscayne Bay, come join us at CABB Beach and check it out. There’s always room for more sailors on the starting line!

Our annual Black Ledge race is coming up on Sunday, May 24th. I have received interest in this events so there should be a good turnout. This race will be run by Alfred Rivero and Manny Leon. I have a health issue which will preclude me from participating this time. I noticed on the CABB page that Eric Roberts wants to crew in this race. Nothing like having a rock star on your boat. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057757625692 Reply to him there or shoot me a text and I can give you his contact information. The weather is looking good for Sunday.

Our event for May will be the classic Black Ledge Race. The date will be Sunday, May 24, 2026. The coordinates for the Black Ledge race are listed below. We will first go to the Black Ledge Marker and then to the Biscayne Channel Marker #20 and then back to the beach. The crew meeting for this race will be on the Rickenbacker Causeway CABB launch beach at 10:30. Please have your boat all rigged and ready to sail by that time so we can get started on time. There were 8 boats owners and one crew who responded in the positive as to availability on May 24th. So we should have a good turnout.

If you need a crew or want to crew let me know, and I will try to match you up for the race.

You do not have to have a GPS for this race, but one would help you locate the marks if you are not familiar with their location. If you plan to do this race please let me know so I know how many boats to expect. If there are any last minute changes I will call those who have let me know they plan to attend.
